I had a great opportunity today and I just had to share with my cake buddies.
I was talking with a young lady about her daughter's 3rd BD cake (I made her cake last year) and sent her a few ideas by email for the cake. She sent me an email that the University where she worked was looking for someone to provide the students with Special Occasion cakes. Small cakes that the parents could order that would serve about 4. She told her co-worker that I would be the right person. She sent her to my website.
This co-worker asked her to see if I was interested. Well...of course I was. So I sent a brief proposal that could be presented at a meeting in the morning. The University was looking for a community person/bakery as their food service company did not do baked goods. I am baking a 1/4 sheet right now to send to that meeting. Tasting is great advertising.
This is a fantastic opportunity as the University is well known with lots of "financial backing". And could even expand their needs with me.
Keep your fingers crossed for me.
Hooray for you!! Keeping my fingers crossed that all goes well. I love the idea of doing something special for college kids (especially those poor freshmen). WTG!
I would think a lot of parents would love the ability to send their kid something special like an individual cake! It sounds like a great deal for you!
I did not know this, but my friend told me that most of the colleges offer something similar to this. Care packages, I think she said they were called. Parents go to the college's website, find the parent section/tab and that is where these things are located.
One offered movie night packages--movie rental coupons, microwave popcorn and things like that. They have welcome packages and some have final exam packages, in addition to the special occasion cakes.
YAY!....looks like a lot of new customers will be coming your way now, for the other cakes they'll need later too!
let us know how it goes!
that is a great opportunity! My parents would have been all over something like this in university - make sure that you offer delivery to the dorm. set out your delivery standards upfront - delivery between 5-7 pm would probably be the best, cell phone numbers for the kid, permission to leave with a roommate.
I loved care packages in university, especially the homemade stuff from home, depending on your business - offering cupcakes or cookies for delivery 'just because' would be great. OR loaves of homemade banana bread.
that's great! And its FREE advertising for you. AND its a HUGE market. woooooooooo hoooooooooo!
Thanks everyone--
I will be getting together with the students (it's one of the fundraisers they do thru-out the year) and admin next week to discuss the details.
That must be so exciting...what a great opportunity indeed. I wish you nothing but the best.
