This is my first time doing a 3-tiered cake (10,8,6). Usually for a 2-tiered cake, I use single cardboard cake circles for each layer. Do I need to double the circles for a 3-tiered to support the weight? And can I still use plastic straws for support?
I only use one cakeboard in between the cake tier...but for the base I use a cakeboard that is equilivant to 3 or 4 cake boards. I would think that you would need more support than plastic straws. I would use wooden dowel rods. That's what I always use for a 3-tier cake.
I would put 5 dowel rods in the 10 inch. I would put 4 dowel rods in the 8 inch cake and none in the 6 inch, except for the tall dowel rod that goes thru all three tiers (including the cake boards).
Hope this helps..
