I have my first wedding cake due this week. I have already baked the cakes so that way I will not have to get that done. I have wrapped and froze them like I do with all my cakes. The problem is that they are getting married Friday AM. I work a full time job. Would the cake be ok ifI ice it Wednesday night, decorate Thursday, then set it up thursday night at the location? It is a white cake, buttercreme filling, buttercreme icing. There will be some yellow flowers on it. It is a 2 teir cake, will be stacked with pillars. Do you all have any suggestions? TIA!!!

The cake will be fine if you ice it Wed., decorate Thurs. Is there any way you can set it up early Fri. AM? I think it would be just fine setting it up Thurs. PM., but Fri AM would be less time for something to go wrong and we all know goofy things can happen! I work a full-time job too and almost always do this sort of time frame in the evenings after work--bake on Wed, ice on thurs., decorate Fri., deliver Sat....We just have to be amazing jugglers with our time mgmt.!! Be sure to transport the cake unassembled!! Good luck!

I think the wedding is at like 10 am Friday morning. The delivery site is about 30 minutes away. I really do not want to deliver on Friday morning because that will be a total of an hour and half driving time just for me to get to work. The wedding is at my BIL's church (he is the pastor). So we were going to set it up and then put a box or something to cover it.

I just made a cake last week and did the same thing. I baked all the cakes on Wednesday and froze them. Then on Thursday evening I torted and crumbcoated the cakes. On Friday morning, I put the fondant on.. and then Friday evening after arriving at my destination (6 hours away from home), I put the final decorations on. Then I delievered it on Saturday. The cake was delicious! I used a moistening syrup. Everyone loved it!

Your cake will be fine overnight on Thurs. especially if you'll be covering it with a box or something--I promise!!

The box thing really worries me! I can just see someone picking up the box and scraping it against the cake, or even dragging it off the table. If you do this please make sure that a HUGE sign is posted on the box and a designated person and that person only is to take the box off of the cake.

I agree w/ jibbies! If you do go with the box idea, I'd recommend placing a honkin' big square of rubber shelf liner under the cake board. That way if someone does bump the table cause they don't see the 24"x24" sign you've put up saying "CAUTION ~ CAKE INSIDE ~PLS DON'T TOUCH UNDER PENALTY OF SPATULA BEATING!", the cake won't go sliding into the side of the box and get ruined while you're not there to fix it.

Make sure to take a pic of the cake right before you put the box over it, as proof that it was a-ok when you left it.

Tough dilemma, but it should turn out ok. Best of luck!

Thanks everyone! I understand the concern about the box. There will only be 11 people total at the wedding. My SIL will be the one taking care of the cake. But I will talk with her about being careful lifting the box.

Thanks again everyon!

Ashley--I sent a "boxed" cake to Colorado in the back of the mother-of-the-bride's Tahoe in extreme July 4th heat and it arrived perfectly fine--I bet your cake is going to be just fine sitting on the table at the church!! Happy caking and I can't wait to see how it turns out!!

Thanks everyone for your help! I got the cake done! It did not turn out the way I wanted, but it was alright. The couple seemed to really like it, and that's all that matters. I'll try to pust the picture, if no look at my pictures.

Thanks!
LL
