I need to give a few really cute pictures to a lady interviewing me on Monday for the bakery. I wanted this cake to turn out cool, then it sort've started looking like it was having an identity crisis, so I decided instead of breathing fire, it would be blowing a bubble...

UGH! I should've stopped when I first started feeling tired and given up until tomorrow. Now it's a mess!

How bad is it??!!! Be honest!!!

I guess it's important to note that the pictures have to be kid's birthday cake pictures - since she writes for a parenting magazine.....

I think it's cute.. even with the bubble. It probably would have been more realistic with the fire, but you can DEFINITELY see your talent at first glance. I'm sure everything will go perfect! Good luck! thumbs_up.gif

I think it looks great....what's the problem? icon_smile.gifThe varied shades of green and contrasting textures give it a very professional look and it's not sloppy or juvenile. I think it looks very cool!

I like the head and you should've did fire instead of a bubble. Don't really care to much for the body but still a nice cake.

Yeah, I hate the legs! They're the worst part... Why I used the star tip I have no idea.

I think your cake is super cute! I love the sheepish look on his face almost like it got caught blowing a bubble when it should have been breathing fire! I think it's great! Good luck! thumbs_up.gif

Really, what do you think is wrong with it. It looks very professional, you have used different mediums perfectly. I do agree that from the view in the picture the fire may have looked better since at first sight I thought it just had a big nose...I still think it looks great

Raquel, I hate the legs, face and tail. haha

I think the face is weird, the legs shouldn't have been done in a star tip and the tail is not that great. I think I will revamp this cake tomorrow. I have until Monday!

Thanks you guys!!! I'll probably play with it more and then repost a new pic!

I think it's terribly cute, but the bubble in particular doesn't look so much like it's being blown, just like kind of a big pink ball. It needs to be just a bit further away and have a little sort of tail leading to the mouth to look like it's being blown as a bubble.

i think it would look better without the bubble...not sure if i would have known what it was if you hadn't told us. i like his expression.

My daughter is six and she just saw the cake and loved it. She said, "Oh mom, the dragon's blowing a bubble...how cool is that!!!"

The background is what makes the cake look a litte off...on a plain black backround he looks really cute. See...

Also, I'd move the stick of gum so you could see the package better...maybe put a couple of crumpled up wrappers on top of the package too.

The cake is wonderful. You definitely have some wicked, awesome talent. The only drawback is the bubble and if it were my cake that's all I would personally change about it.

Your cake is so cute.....like stated above maybe fire instead of a bubble.... The cake is for kids and they have a different outlook on perfection than adults do.......Wimmsey, cute, colorful and their favorite charactor. I love his face the expression is great. Keep up the good work.

You guys are great! Thanks for the uplifting comments and thanks for the HONEST responses!! I am working on him now. I have removed his wings and am redoing them (look too much like trees!) and am fixing his mouth. He will no longer be blowing a bubble!!

I am also going to mold a knight out of fondant. I will post a new pic with the knight and revamped dragon as soon as I finish them!!

Thanks again!

I think it's a cute cake. I like the bubble! I also like the suggestion of having some crumpled gum wrappers (or foils) scattered on the board and come on one stick would NOT be enough for a dragon!! Any ole dragon can blow fire, but it's a special dragon who can blow bubbles! It's a kids cake right? Think like a kid!

I think it's really cute and I love the expression on his face. icon_biggrin.gif I wasn't crazy about the wings, for some reason, it made me think of a grasshopper. icon_redface.gif But, I think it's adorable and any child would love it. I love the bubble idea for a girl and fire for a boy. That way, it could appeal to either one. icon_lol.gif

I'm with you CarolAnn! EVERYone knows that dragons breathe fire, but you found the only dragon who prefers to blow bubbles! Love the whimsy, and your execution is very nice. I think the crumpled wrappers would add to it, as well!
BTW, I am going to look for an excuse to make a bubble-blowing dragon now! icon_biggrin.gif

LOL that is the cutest cake ever!

With his eyes looking up and off to the side he looks like he is thinking "Why is there a bubble coming out of my mouth and not fire"

Really cute to add the pack of gum!

I just love it!

Cheers,
ally

Wow! Thanks for all the new responses! I went based on popular opinion as of this morning, which was to take the bubble off! I will post new pics soon. I am almost done, just waiting for my knight to finish drying a little more before I paint his outfit silver.....

Your knight is cute. The wings are better! But, to me, he will always be the bubble-blowing dragon.
