Mdgsue02 did her version of my Coke Cake today and graciously gave me
credit. Since then I have been getting alot of requests on how to do it.
I'm not sure how to do all of this so my DS has gotten me started. I hope this is right.
I baked 2- 6inch rounds and 2-8 inch rounds.
I used a wooden cake board that my DH drilled a hole for the metal dowel rod to go into for more support.
I made rock candy (recipe is in the CC recipes) and poured it onto a cookie sheet. I let it cool just enough that you can almost touch, but just enough that you still fill the heat (and say a few words lol) but not to leave blisters. I laid the metal dowel into the candy and rolled it alittle bit and pulled it up. I used my hand to form it the way I thought soda would look pouring out of a can.
Keep doing this until it has the look you want. When the rest of the rock candy gets hard, take a hammer and break it up. This will be the ice for the glass.
I slit each round to slide onto the dowel. I don't know if I would do that again or if I would just put the dowel down through the cakes. I don't know if it would mess up the candy on the rod or not.
I carved the 8 inch rounds so they would blend into the 6 in rounds to make the glass look like an old soda fountain glass.
I then iced and placed the rock candy ice on top. Glue the Coke can above and have Fun!!!!!!
Enjoy!

Wow, this is amazing!
I have decided recently to try my hand at cake making, and I am going to try this recipe this weekend.
Thank you so much for posting this!

Wow! Great Job...I'm going to have to try this since I'm such a coke-a-holic...Hubby will think I'm nuts
I'm going to have to try this one too. My father is convinced that he alone has kept the Coke company raking in profits (i.e. his paycheques!) since the 1950s. He'd love this cake!

Tracey! I saw in your signature your baby Otto! Is that him on your avatar? I have a "real" baby Otto! That's why it jumped out at me! Not a name that you hear very often.... Mine is 9 months old. Named after daddy and grandpa and great grandpa so that makes him a 4th. Sorry for the hijack! Just had to share!
Hi Michelle!
My "fur" baby, Otto! We chose the name because he is a Weimaraner, which is a German breed. He's 110lbs of spoiled rotten dog - he's a diva! We wanted to give him a German name, and that was the one we liked the best. We debated many names before settling on that one. Isn't that funny ... ! I hope your Otto is as much a joy to you as mine has been to me.
Yes Tracey!!
Oh how much of a joy our Otto is to us! Definitely not something that we planned on, we have 3 girls, 12, 8, and 7.....and then there's Otto who is 9 months old. BIG SURPRISE!!! I can't believe that we didn't plan on him!! And definitely can't imagine my life without him now!!
lu9129, thank you for sharing your instructions. I just have one question though if you don't mind. What are you using to glue the can that gets it to hold at that angle? I understand the whole metal rod thing but not so much how I would attatch the can. Can someone help me with this part please
TIA
