I am making my DH a two layer coconut cake, I would like to put apicot fillings between the layers. I bought a jar of Apricot Presevers. Do I put it directly on the layer from the jar? I thought I read somewhere on this site that you shoud warm it up before putting on cake. But, I could not find any info. Help icon_confused.gif

Thanks,

Hi, I've used apricot preserves before. I didn't warm it up first. Although I think they suggested that because of the thickness of the preserve. It's pretty much by choice. And don't forget to make a dam (pipe icing on the edges of cake) before adding your preserves so that the preserves don't ooze out the sides. Hope this helps!

Well, if you are using it for a glaze, you heat it up, but not for a filling.

Also, don't buttercream the cake first. The whole thing will do a big slip/slide with the jam over the buttercream. Just a dam is sufficient. If you want the pulp smoother, you can mash it through a strainer, but it will soften it some.
