Edna,

I have watching all of your videos many times, and they are wonderful and informative. I am really anxious to to sit down and work on my flowers now. But I have a couple of questions.

Where do you get your cloth covered wire?

Could I just cover the wire with the florist tape instead? Every time I make roses, the cone part starts to slip, even if I let them dry for a couple of days.

A lot of places sell the wire covered with florist tape.

I have florist tape in eveery color & like covering them myself. It is really easy, divide a length of tape into 3rds. Hold the wire in one hand & the tape in the other & keep spinning your wire while stretching the tape around it. I am not good a explaining so I hope you can understand what I am saying.

Roll some florist tape around the top of the wire ten times. Make a loop with that and roll more florist tape over the loop. Make the cone of gumpaste and push it on the wire. Make sure to press the underside well.
Let it dry well for 24 hours..
hope this helps!

Just remember to seal well the bottom. If you dont seal it well and is not completely dry, chances are it can come out of the wire.

Edna your instructions are great, it didn't take me long to figure out what I was doing wrong.

I have decided though that I like doing the little roses best, I think they are sweet.

Hey, I have a random question to ask...

I'm going to work on a 3D cake later this week and I'm thinking of using RKT to construct part of it. Now, my question is, do I use the RKT right from the pot when it's still soft or do I let it sit and harden before molding into shape? Also, do you follow the same procedure to cover in fondant?..Meaning, do I ice in buttercream first and then cover in fondant? Thanks in advance!

Hope everone has been having a good week thus far!

For those of you fellow Floridians, be safe and stay out of the path of Fay!!!

I have used the recipe and I have used the one that they sell. I do cover it with buttercream or RI, depending what you are doing, cause if not it will look bumpy. Some people chrush them in the food processor, I never had done that.

Fay...I havent seen her yet...she got scared of me!

Pedro, I always buy the big boxes at Costco, never make it myself. Cover with BC or RI like edna says or you can do like I did with the ship in my photo's & cover with a layer of fondant or sugar paste, let dry for a while & cover again with fondant or sugarpaste.

Please all you Floridians stay safe out of harms way.

Edna,
It is my dream to go to OSSAS, but unfortunatly I am TERRIFIED of flying and its wayyy to long to drive from VA. So until I get over my fear I will just have to miss out!

Oh by the way, I have almost completed all of the roses that I needed for my competition cake (State Fair) and am ready to work on leaves. So if you feel a tutorial coming on......I will be the first viewer. Also what is a good filler flower for a rose spray. I was thinking forget me nots.

Yes forget me nots look great.. and they are easy.
Leaves are very easy too. Well you know you can holler anytime icon_lol.gif
I am with you for OSSAS. I am going this year as a looker. I want to do it, but same issue..I would be traveling from Orlando icon_redface.gif
I thought maybe if I start with a smaller cake in the non wedding area I can maybe travel and finish it over there. But the hazzle!!!. I dont know how others do it!

What kind do you have. I have the plunger leaf veiner and i have the veiner that came with the Wilton Gumpaste kit. I have never used that one though. It doesnt look like it does a good job.
I am just about to finish my roses now. I am working on them and keeping my eye on CC.
