I thought it would be fun to start a thread on everyone's own cake that is their favorite. it might not be your best but is speacial because of a story behind it. Maybe it was your first or for someone speacial. Mine attached is one I did a year ago for a friend of my sons. He is on his way to playing professional ball hence the baseball and loves bass fishing. This cake is the one that encouraged me to pursue cake decorating. Let's hear some of those background stories.

This is one of my favorites. It's just a little 6" round but I loved to colors of the roses the lady wanted. Plus it was my first time doing the edible butterflies, I was proud of them. Thanks for looking.

I just did this castle last weekend and I am soo happy with how it turned out. I was really nervous taking this order. They had a picture of this castle that was used on the baby shower invites and wanted me to duplicate it- ahhh! But turned out great, they were so pleased. I've attached the picture that the cake was based off too! I had a topsy turvey wedding cake collapse on me the end of June and this cake was a great pick-me-up to tell me that I am semi-decent at this cake decorating stuff after all icon_smile.gif

This was the last cake I did that I really put some effort into. I made this for my ex-fiance's coworker for their birthday last fall. They said they wanted chocolate frosting, so it was a perfect excuse to try to replicate the cake from ACD... Hibiscus are my favorite flowers, so I was totally thrilled to be able to do it.

The ex-fiance and I split about a month and a half later, and since then I made my dad's wedding cake (which I hated so I never took pictures of it) and I made my own wedding cake about 4 weeks ago (thankfully I didn't marry the hibiscus-cake-carrying-jerk) and I just haven't uploaded the new pictures.

I was soooo proud of this cake, I can't even tell you. icon_smile.gificon_lol.gif

This one, no question: http://www.cakecentral.com/modules.php?name=gallery&file=displayimage&pid=1251316

It's my mom's birthday cake. The way her face lit up when I presented it to her was just perfect. It was really, really special.

This was for my husband's birthday last year. I had just wanted an excuse to try this cake. To this day, when describing the cake, he says "It was perfectly done." I was thrilled with how well it turned out, as it was my first time trying anything like it.

My favorite is usually just my most recent cake (I'm so fickle). No great stories I can think of.

I loved doing this one, though, because the bride was in the military stationed across the country and just mailed me a pic from The Knot that looked so modern and different from what I usually do here, so I looked forward to it all year, and bam, if it didn't look JUST like the email picture (cept I made the topper). I was thrilled with how it turned out.

Oh...I also reallyreallyreally loved how my recent celtic knot cake turned out--both are from last weekend. It was a great way to finish my year; I only have 2 more weddings this season. icon_smile.gif

Right now my favorite is the one I did Friday for my mother in law here:

http://www.cakecentral.com/cake-photo_1252983.html

The story...

Her birthday was June 15, the same day as Father's Day. I had planned on making that cake for her then, but my father in law realized last minute that he had a work-related class he had to attend on the day they were going to come down (it's about a 2-2.5 hour drive for them). So they never did visit, and my mother in law was so disappointed that I couldn't make the cake for her (I really enjoy decorating...such a delicious creative outlet, and she's supportive).

So, knowing she would be down here this weekend to house sit for my sister in law and her husband, I made the cake so she could finally have her Minnie Mouse Cake.

She about cried, and didn't want to cut it. Luckily for me, it was also my BEST tasting chocolate cake to date. icon_wink.gif

What kind of BC do you use? Is is SMBC? It looks so smooth and flawless!

Just one? icon_biggrin.gif

Right now it has to be my most recent cake. It was my first wedding cake, and gave me such stress with a filling blowout that caused me to have to redo the entire bottom tier. But it came out so pretty, and has cemented my love for brushed embroidery.

Here is my favorite cake: http://www.cakecentral.com/cake-photo_1162215.html

I made in memory of my son for his first birthday in heaven. It came out just the way I had envisioned and was so therapeutic, I really enjoyed doing it. The little figures on the side of the cake were the two stuffed animals that stayed on his bed while he was in the NICU.

It may not be the best cake I have ever done, but it was one that I put my heart and soul into.

Only one! I guess I will post this one, but if you want to see my other favorite it's the snowman cake in my gallery. I love this cake so much because it's one of the few cakes that came out better than I thought it would. I was so excited when I saw how good it was especially the frogs since that was my first time modeling!

I made this cake for my grandson's birthday party this weekend. I was thrilled when all the kids gathered around the table and said "WOW". I'm still new to cake decorating, but I am trying to learn new things with every cake. (Hope I did the link correctly).

My favorite so far is my Mom's 70th birthday cake. I enjoyed working on it just for her! She kept the GP basket topper next to her beloved Capodimonte ceramics icon_biggrin.gif. Top and bottom tiers were buttercake with sugar cookie center with raspberry preserves and BC, and middle tier was swiss chocolate with chocolate chip cookie center with choc. BC. 12", 9", and 6", and it was almost gone at the end of the party

I haven't made many cakes but I have two favourites. The most sentimental was my cake for my Mum on Mother's Day. She's not a very expressive or emotional person so the look on her face when I walked in with it was really gratifying! It's the red and white one in my photos.

However, the one I'm most proud of is this one:
http://www.cakecentral.com/cake-photo_1227797.html

I made it for my stepmother's friend's 60th and there are so many things I did here that I'd never attempted before! I'd never made a topper, never made or used MMF, never made a fondant bow, never used a patterned roller etc etc! It amazed me that it came out so well and it got me my first paying order icon_biggrin.gif
