Be sure to check out some of the camo cakes in the pics here, there are some fantastic ones. I think I have seen airbrushed, piped, fondant and smooth iced, and all were great!
Good luck! I am sure someone will know more, just wanted to give you a bump too!

Here's a camo grooms cake I made for my hunting nephew a few years ago:

http://www.cakecentral.com/modules.php?name=gallery&file=displayimage&pid=85093

I colored several camo colors of fondant, I placed blobs as you call it next to each other and rolled it out together into a smooth sheet with a rolling pin.

I have seen people do a similar thing with buttercream and then smooth with the Melvira method (it has directions here at Cake central).

Let me know if you have questions.

Well, I didn't make a camo cake, but I did do about 150 camo cupcakes! I pretty much just smoothed out a "glob" of icing in a rough pattern, then smoothed it all together, finally gave it a little airbrush in the different colors to set it a little more. I thought they turned out ok, everyone else liked them. I used DH's BDU's as a guide though. It might help to have an actual piece of camo in front of you as a guide.

Here is a pic of my camo cake I did.. they are fun to do.. you start with3 or 4 colors in bags witha tip 4 or 5 round hole in each or exchange with each color. outline with a color and fil in using hole tip.. do 3 or 4 colors then smooth with a fondant smoother and Viva paper towel work in about 5"' sections then smooth.. It goes pretty fast when you get the hang of it..

This was my first attempt at a camouflauge cake which happened to be a Groom's cake. I used a toothpick to map out my areas and then used the #16 star tip to fill it in and just tried to make sure that the same colours were not touching. Hope this helps! Good luck! icon_smile.gif

here's the camo cake I did. I did it like bcake icon_smile.gif Got my icing all in bags with no icing tip at all, actually, just a corner snipped out. I outlined my "blob", then filled in, did the whole cake that way, then let it crust and smoothed it with my roller icon_smile.gif It was pretty fun and fast and I would do it again!

I went to include my link and found out I never posted it here on CC, so here is my addition to the camo cakes - done in buttercream, then smoothed w/ Viva. Very easy and mistake proof!

Good luck!

Hey thanks! For having to put a grenade on a cake, I think it turned out ok. The birthday boy wanted a gun, but I kinda passed on that idea and came up w/ the grenade instead, haha. (it's all bc)

I just did this one for my nephews..

it was fun and easy. I just outlined each section, filled in with BC then when it was all done I smoothed the top over with a foam roller. HTH

I've got a couple in my pics. I just did the blobs of icing and let the crust and them smoothed them with a viva. I think it's really easy to do it that way and it looks great. I also did it once where I iced the cake in the dark green and then did streaks of the other colors and hot knifed the sides. It was a different look, but still cool.

Here in Arkansas, the land of hunting and fishing (and rednecks icon_wink.gif ) I have done a bunch of camo cakes over the years. The most popular is a camo background with a dogtag lying on it. I dunno why....
You could write whatever you want on the dogtag. Here's a link to the search results on my website:
