How do you anchor whimsical wire toppers?

I am in the middle of doing a princess first birthday cake in which there will be (hopefully icon_eek.gif ), a whimsical wire topper. Before I destroy this already problematic cake, I need some advice on how to anchor the wires so they don't topple and pull out. Seems easy enough, but I know fondant is quite heavy...so seems to me gravity would certainly take its toll. Any of you CC'er's out there have any suggestions, PLEASE PM me ASAP. I would greatly appreciate your help. icon_biggrin.gif

. . . you can put straws in your cake (to act like a sleeve more or less) . . . then the wires are not actually touching the cake and they will stay put . . . hope that make sense . . .

I just did a "bouquet" of crazy loopy wires with balls on the ends. Of course, I sunk a SPS leg into the middle of the top tier, and put all the wires down into that. There were a lot of wires and it looked like they were exploding out of the center of the cake.
