i saved enough in my piggy bank (i think) to get going on a the roof on the building i bought.
yeah, calling contractors...PRAY that i get the right one....for a good price.
the wrong one can be a nightmare.

one of the front windows has a huge crack in it...it will cost a mint to fix.....so i'm gonna cover it with wood and do a trompe-l'Åil painting....maybe a faux window...with cute curtains and wedding cakes...and a chubby blonde woman peepin out....hee hee
Don't you hate it! I just hate calling contractors to do something, they think they are dealing with some helpless little ole female that bakes for a living...............watch out cause I can lift a 100 pound cake up on a display table and I swing a pretty big rolling pin

We don't have a shop, but our home kitchen needs new countertops. Totally dates the kitchen older than it really is and are a pain to clean. I don't even want to think about calling anyone to price out installation, trying to convince hubby we can do it ourselves (have it measured and cut by the professionals though) with help from experienced family and friend. So far he isn't buying it, but it will save us hundreds. I always win, it's just a matter of time.

I have a fantastic contractor - he's honest, fast, and reliable, not to mention quite inexpensive. His name is Brandon Tener, and he works out of Tulsa, but he might be able to recommend someone to you. His number is 918-521-8705. You can tell him Preeti from Lulu's Sweet Shoppe recommended him. Good luck! Talk to him about the window, too.
Wish you lived closer! DH does windows for a living - I'd send him over and he'd replace it free. (Well, you'd have to pay for the glass.) The labor these guys get, I admit, is a bit steep. Granted, DH does mostly commercial jobs on new structures. He's currently working on the Hilton Hotel that blew up a while back.
As an example, he replaced 2 broken windows at my kid's gym studio as a favor. He was there a whopping 10 minutes! They just take out the old caulk, slide out the broken pieces, slide in a new panel and recaulk it.

i don't know what you are replacing your counter with, but i learned at lowes you can lay tile directly over your old countertop...and i did that at my old house...it was labor intensive...but easy.
at the new place after my son installed the cabinets...i made the countertops myself out of plywood, with concrete backer board screwed into it...ya lay the tiles directly on that....TOO MUCH HGTV huh?

course the window space is 5 ft tall, and 8 feet wide, i already got it sketched out....i'm gonna build real shutters and a real windowbox....i think i'm gonna nail wooden panes on it too after the background is painted.
of course mine will be very different, i just really loved the composition of this piece

Well that's half the problem. The current countertops are tiles, 1" tiles! Rediculous amount of grout to keep clean. It's not worth it to try and tile over top of that again, it wasn't done good the first time. I'm not fancy, I'd take laminate.
