Whipped Icing?

My husband really loves that weird fluffy icing that you get on store bought cakes and pies. It has a not-too-sweet, Cool-whip like taste, but it's super thick and stiff. I'm not a big fan but I'd love to make it for him.

I have been searching for that same recipe. My family likes that icing better than buttercream and I've never used fondant yet, so I have no idea on it's taste. The closest thing I've found so far to the cool whip recipe is 1 sm. box vanilla pudding, 3 c milk, mix good then add 1 sm. tub cool whip. It's good as frosting, but won't work for making roses and such like the grocery store bakeries do. Good luck finding it, and if you do would you please email it to me [email protected] Thank you

Hi,
You'd probabaly enjoy "Wilton's Whipped icing"....you can get a pkg of it from any "BulkBarn" or "Michael's". If I remember correctly, you just add ice cold water and beat until it gets thick.

Ok, there is at least one request for this recipe every week.

If you check in the forum archives, you will find out that there is no recipe for that icing. It is a frozen product, called by a few different names -

Bettercreme
Whip'N'Ice
and I think there are two or three other brands, but I cannot remember what they are, because I will not work with it.

I use basically the same recipe, here is mine: 1 pkg of instant pudding (any flavor), 1/4 cup of powdered sugar ( I always add more to make it a little thicker), 1 cup of cold milk and an 8 oz tub of cool whip. Everyone loves it. Since it is not a stiff frosting, I swirl it on cupcakes. Make sure you keep it in the frig!

Playingwithsugar, Thank you, I didn't realize that it was called bettercream. I've been reading some talk of bettercream and was wondering, but hadn't figured it out for sure. If you don't mind me asking though, is there any paticular reason why you don't use it? or just prefer other icings instead?
