I was wondering if someone that has been or has more first hand knowledge on the OSSAS could answer a question for me. I'm not sure which division I fall in to.

As a WMI, does that make me a 'past or present teacher" and put me in the Semi Professional Catergory? Nothing else in that one fits me, but the top of the page says that even if you meet one requirement that is the lowest division you can go.

When I think 'teacher' I think of people like Nic, Collete, and suck. You know the big names.

Does anyone know if they consider WMI's 'teachers' and there for we would be in the Semi Professional Catergory?

I couldn't say for sure...but I read it to mean WMI instructors, too...which would put me in the professionals category...I am more inline with Beginning Adult, though on skills! LOL

Somewhere on their site is very specific rules, like how many paid cakes you make a year or something..if I remember right from last year. You should be able to find it.....I'm too tired to look.

I feel more Adult Advanced than Semi Pro. But then I haven't had any classes other than Wilton, never worked in a bakery and I doubt I do 36 cakes a year.

If I'm in the Semi Pro group I'd have to rethink going and entering.

This will be my first year going to OSSAS. I might just scope it all out this year and enter next year. Unfortunately for me, I fall into the "Professional" category. EEEEeeekkkkk

Texas Sugar and Cakepro...both of you deserve professional status! Your cakes are gorgeous! I think you should both go for it...I live only 45 minutes away from Tulsa, so I will be there with bells on to cheer on your cakes, should you enter!

I went last year just to look and wouldn't dream of entering. This year, I'm entering and I've GOT to decide what to do and get started. I'll be in the Adult Advanced and wish I was in beginner. I don't expect to win anything but it will be great just to get the critique. I'm going to enter 2 or 3 cakes and try different techniques on each one, just for the practice.

Well it is official. I emailed Kerry, I guess hoping for a loop hole and the reply back was: Yes, indeed it does -- since you are being paid to teach.

So if I go I guess I will have to be entering the Semi Pro group. If only I really thought I could compete with that group.

Does anyone know of a past site that has some pictures from the OSSAS to get an idea of the talent level in that area?

I competed in Semi pro the last three years. I placed every year. I also start all my entries in May and June. For wedding cake that is a late start I encourage everyone to enter! I actually decided to move up to Professional this year. I can only be as good as who I compete against and I am up against some really great talent! Competing in a higher level makes me work all that much harder! After the first year, I go with the knowledge of learning. I learn frmo each and every year! It is great fun!

I guess I would feel better if I really knew what I was getting into. I'm going to decide this week if I am going to do it for sure or not. Have to see if I can afford the trip to start with.

I've decided if I do go this year I'm just gonna go ahead and enter. I don't except to win or place, but atleast I can say I entered.

Maybe next year I'll make it to the one in Austin. Figure I have to start somewhere. I'm just blank on ideas and it feels weird to look at cakes for ideas because if I do enter something I want it to be some what orginal.

I really really really want to go this year. I'm itching to enter. But with gas prices, we just can't make the nine hour drive. I have so many great ideas! agh!!

I love how strict the categories are. I went to capital confectioners in Austin this year and there were people in the beginner category that there is no way they are a beginner. I even heard one lady giving one of the main people there a huge fit about it.

Texas Sugar, I'm from tyler but living in houston now. I love Tyler. I met my husband there. If there was a large enough corporation there for him to work at, we would love to move back. But he has to work in big cities with his line of work.

Bwonderful, I totally understand what you mean. I've thought about it before but the time is always off, maybe this year. Same thing with the Austin one, I'd love to go, but with it not to far after the holidays I'm always strapped for cash when it happens.
