How would I do a money cake with REAL money???

Hello Everyone

My 12 year old twin newphew & niece's bday is coming up & I was going to make their cake.. I wanted to make sometype of "money cake" with real money..
I could do the same cake as this and instead of the "faces", I could dollar bills in place of it..
Does anyone have any idea's on how I could do this or do they have a different idea for a money cake that I couyld do?

Thank you so much for you help and idea's..

How about just doing a cake that looks like a dollar bill? You could even make it easier and use an edible image of a dollar or something on a sheet cake?

How about using those gold-foil chocolate coins instead?

I'm kind of grossed out by the thought of real money touching a cake myself. Money is dirty, not hygienic enough to be in contact with icing IMHO icon_razz.gif

Here's a little essay on that I just found online to prove my point. Yuck!

You could make things out of money (like origami) attach them to wires & have them coming out of the cake. You don't want money touching the cake though. Maybe a light green cake w/ darker green & black accents. CT, RI, or edible images of the presidents on the side. Are you wanting stacked or a sheet cake?

Yeah eww @ real money on a cake. The only times I did that was coins and they can get sterilized (for money cakes-inserting money into the cake). I also did add some of my coin/paper money collection to my nephew's 'cash register' when he asked for a sponge bob cake (I made the cash register from the Krab Shack and a bunch of Krabby patties, and had the till open with some sterilized coins on it and a couple of paper money on top of that, but we made sure we didn't eat that part- it was tiny anyway.

Oh yeah , so my idea, maybe you could play around with a picture of paper money on the computer, sort of photoshopping in their faces onto the bills, instead of whoever is on the bills you choose, 20, 50 or 1 or whatever, and then get those done as edible images and put them on the cake?
That's all I can come up with for 'real' money-
Good luck!

Don't use real money. They have germs and are very gross. Don't want to make people sick either.

Maybe you could make fondant "money". rolled up or hanging from the tree.

if you're wanting to do a money tree you could.

1) roll real money into a rose. Attach it to a toothpick. Cut some wax paper to size & have it between the money & the cake. (still not pushing the money far enough into it to touch though)

2) Make a styrofoam/fondant tree & hang money from it. The styrofoam is really a lot more simple to do than you would think. You take a cone styrofoam. Put in some skewers & coat it w/ RI (cover the bottom in RI first & let dry b/c it would be on the plate.)

Here's a pic of my RI tree. (you can make it smaller)http://www.cakecentral.com/modules.php?name=gallery&file=displayimage&pid=1155396

I would'nt use real money it's really dirty, have you ever smelled your hands after handling it? They always smell kinda funky!
Maybe you can take the money and make high quality color copies of it and use that instead, it would still be unedible but maybe a little cleaner?

How about using the real money to make a bow? You could wire the money bow and then stick it on top of the cake?

Well, maybe you could make a pastillage trunk (since none would eat pastillage), paint it with coffe and put it in top of the cake. Like a treasure cake! You could draw a map on the cake icon_biggrin.gif

I use to work in a bank, so I know it's nasty. I never suggested she put it "on" the cake.

You could put the money in a lil' box and put the box on the cake. Make the box into a present box on top. That way your money is not touching the cake and it is a cute touch.
