I don't usually shop at T.J.Max just because I am too busy to get there, but I went because a friend of mine wanted to stop there. Well to my surprise they had the most fabulous things for cupcake making. First of all, I found the pretty pastel sprinkles that I have been searching everywhere for. I wanted some certain colors and they were in those containers with 3 or 4 colors in each for 3.99 each. What a buy!!!!!
Then the sugar syrups jumped out and I couldn't load them in my cart fast enough. There was watermelon, white pear, mango, cranberry, pomegranate, and hazelnut just to mention the ones I couldn't resist.
Then my really favorite things were these fancy marshmallows in lots of shapes and colors. They have these pink and white folkheart shaped ones that are about 3/4 inch high that will be darling on top of cupcakes. They also have small logs that consist of several pastel colors rolled into the 2 inch logs. Covered with chocolate with a little flower on top will be a great addition to a dessert plate. Long Live Max!!!
Can't wait to go back as she said they add things all the time.

Couture Cupcakes has a divine sounding recipe"Honey Pear Cupcakes" that I will use my white pear syrup for. This is so much fun!!!

Just becaused I really do not know.... : ( how do you use sugar syrup? Do you find recipes that ask for that?

Thanks Lilybird. I would have never thought of TJ Max but I will be making a stop there shortly.

Claricakes---I brush the tops of my warm cupcakes with the appropriate kind of syrup and let them cool before I frost them. You can replace some of the liquid in a recipe with these and I will also mix them with cream cheese as a filling for cakes and cupcakes. They are terrific added to BC frosting also.
The white pear syrup is used in the recipe to poach the pears before using them in the Honey Pear cupcake recipe.

Can anyone else share ideas for using these syrups?

Lily, thanks for the tip! I hardly ever go to TJMax. Are those the same as the coffee syrups? I never thought about brushing the tops of the cc's after baking. What a good idea! They are good whipped into Bettercreme too for filling or frosting.

I don't usually shop stores like T.J. Maxx or Marshalls, but Marshall's also has these things!! Found them on a freak trip there one day!

We have a "HomeGoods" store which is TJ Maxx's sister store...it sells only household decor and furnishings. It does have the "gourmet" food section as well. Basically, it's TJ Maxx but without the clothes. It's huge and inexpensive and you can find a lot of unique looking things. Fun place!

GrandmaG--I think that these are for coffee as they are with the different kinds of coffee. They are awfully sweet but they are really good. Of course I had to take a little taste of each one when I got home!!!! Thanks for the Marshals info--wish I had one closer. I am going to TJ again tomorrow and can't wait to see what I find again. I wonder if I will ever use all the things I have stockpiled in this life!!!! One has to be positive and assume you will live forever so naturally, you will need a lot of different things to bake with!!!!

Darn! I didn't know TJ Maxx had that stuff. I actually made my "rounds" this afternoon. I visited Big Lots, Marshall's, Tuesday Morning, World Market, and Ross. I LOVE to hunt for treasures in these stores. There are so many things that I don't realize I "need" until I see them! LOL

Today I bought a kitchen scale (for those recipes that list ingredients by weight); a large white cake stand; a medium, plain glass cake stand; texture plates for making handmade paper (I think they will be great for adding texture to fondant). I saw some great crystal sugar sprinkles that were regularly $6.00, selling for $3.00. But I'm a super cheapskate, so I passed. Saw some chocolate covered sunflower seeds in really bright colors that would look great as sprinkles. But they were $5, so again I passed.

It's amazing all the great baking stuff you can find in these stores!

I have run across your wonderful photos on Flickr. You are one talented lady. I love going to flea markets on weekends and finding that really special piece that is super cheap. Sometimes you have to haunt these places several times before you come up with something, but it sure is fun looking. We drove up the way about an hour to a big flea market and I ran across a lady selling out her cake business. Now that put a smile on my face and what fun digging through all those treasures.
I went to TJ Max again the other day, but they are in the midst of a change over so there wasn't much there right now. She said they will be bringing in tons of new things for the holiday season, so keep checking girls!!!!!

lilybird - thanks for your compliments on my pics. I've always loved photography and my cake and cookie creations have been a great addition to my subject matter.

I can not tell you how many GREAT cake plate sets I've found for dirt cheap at TJ Maxx. I have several stacking ones from there.

They're a great add-on sale. I rent them for $20 a shot - and I only paid about that much for most of them. They work great for people having smaller parties that don't need my huge towers but still want a pretty display.
