I need to make some dalmatian cupcakes this week for my son's party to go with a firetruck cake.

I found the basic idea on the wilton site, but need help making it look more like a dalmatian. They used tootsie rolls to mold ears & nose. Would you suggest black candy melts, MMF, or maybe try to color the tootsie rolls black? Tootsie rolls are easy to work with.

you could use candy clay, even easier to work with then tootsie rolls, and easy to color too.

Thanks! I forgot about that stuff. I have the recipe somewhere. It's just candy melts and corn syrup if I remember right.

yes i just use a 1/3 cup corn syrup to a pound of chocolate.

To make them look more like a dalmatian i would two tone the ears and maybe put a spot on the top of the face.

Thanks! My daughter drew a picture for me to follow, but we didn't think about the 2 tone ears. That will be great. Gotta go get the chocolate today!

Dalmations have a lot of different patterns. You could look up 101 dalmations and see a variety of spot patterns. I think it would be fun to make them all different.

pg. 67 of the "hello, cupcake" book has directions/pics/template for making a dalmatian cupcake....they don't look difficult to do and use thin chocolate cookies, marshmallows (reg & min), starbursts, black jelly beans & mini m & m's.
