I have seen several recipes that contain the ingredient "Nutella". Could someone me what this ingredient is and where it can be purchased. Thanks in advance for the info. icon_wink.gif

Nutella is a hazelnut/chocolate spread that is just like peanut butter. It is actually found by the peanut butters in the grocery store. Costco used to carry it, but my local store does not stock it. And they too have it by the peanut butter. I thought the flavor would be overpowering at first as I am not a major hazelnut fan, but it is wonderful!! I layered it with the kahlua cake found in the recipe section and buttercream with a little cinnamon and kahlua mixed in -- talk about heaven!! Not overly sweet and a perfect after dinner dessert with coffee and tea. Good luck!

Oh you have to try it! It's awesome. It's great on strawberries or any type of fruit but is really tasty as a cake filling. You can usually find it at your local grocery store by the peanut butter. Don't put it in the microwave or heat it up in anyway! It will become super hard. I learned this from experience. http://www.nutellausa.com/storeLocator.htm This is a link to find the closest retailer of this delicious chocolate treat! icon_biggrin.gif Hope I helped.

The Italian substitute for peanut butter! Yum! Sooo many ways it can be used. Also often found in the 'International' aisle in your grocery.

I use it with a thinner consistancy as a filling for my chocolate cakes. People go nuts for it!! Ha, Ha!
I put it in my mixer, and add boiling water to it, slowly, it goes to a wierd consistency, at first but finally becomes very smooth, and very easy to spread.

Just a note - I love Nutella too, but once I tried to mix it with buttercream (as suggested by many posters here on CC) to use as a cake filling. The buttercream tasted great, but it totally "seized up" and was completely unspreadable. I can't even think of what to describe the consistency like, but when I posted a question as to whether this had happened to anyone else, I got a few replies that they had. The main suggestion was to add extra liquid, which I didn't think would have been necessary, given that Nutella is spreadable and buttercream is spreadable. I couldn't see how mixing them together would make it unspreadable, but it did. If I do this again, I will try more liquid. Just a warning in case you are wanting to try that.

YUM. That stuff is sooo delicious- don't put it in the fridge either, just leave it in the cupboard. Nutella on crepes is sooo yummy. I want to try folding it into some whipped cream or maybe some IMBC for a cake filling. If you have a BJs wholesale store, they carry it there in a SUPER GIGANTIC size and it's relatively inexpensive. That's what I buy for my house (and there's only 1 child and two adults who eat it!).

I have used it many time for cake filliing. Everyone loves it. Make sure you use a dam to keep it from sliding around. Putting the cake in the fridge helps it set nicely too. In canada it is about $6.00 a jar and our costco sells it in a 2 pack. Tastes like a chocolate hedgehog. Scrummy!

My favorite thing to do with Nutella is spread it on my sugar cookies. If I have extra cookie dough, I cut them into small rounds and spread Nutella........you could even make a sandwich cookie out of it. It is such a good treat!!

It is way too addictive. I love chocolate and hazelnuts, add the two- how can it be wrong. I need some now...
I've made the chocolate version of the WASC with chocolate BC, filled with Nutella, and then chocolate ganache! OMG, so good. I've made it a few times and everyone still talks about it.

Do you just use it straight out of the jar or should you mix it with something?

I'm scared of it icon_sad.gif (gag reflex is bad here )

Can you taste the nut in it? LOL

I've used it straight out of the jar and people go CRAZY for it! Yes, you can taste the hazelnut and the creamy delicious silky smooth chocolate!

I'm going home right now and take this LUCIOUS homemade zuccini bread (still warm) and "slather" it with NUTELLA. Sit down in front of the tube and totally enjoy myself! LOL

I need to get out more. Ya know when Nutella sends you into a state of....euphoria....you need a life! LOL

Have a good weekend everyone!

Ok Beth...I thought my Ferrar Roche addiction was bad...you need to look out for someone coming to your door and doing a "documentary about addiction" because you have an intervention coming.

Of course, I tell my husband one recipe of white chocolate raspberry IMBC should cover the cake very nicely....and he wonders why I am always running out for more butter.

I know, it's terrible. That's why I don't keep it in my house. Just recently had to do a cake with Nutella filling. THAT was my FIRST mistake! LOL

Something ELSE I have found that I can't have....Dark Chocolate AND White Chocolate Peanut Butter!

I love Nutella too.
I've done the Nutella mixed with MBC as a fill (from my Whimsical Bakehouse book) Oh My Goodness SO GOOD!!!!

tracey1970, I'm wondering, did you use a regular buttercream thinned with water? water makes chocolate seize, could that be it? I've only mixed it with Meringue Buttercream (no water)

also, I've made a sandwich with half Nutella and half peanut butter - YUM!!!!

I'm going to make chocolate cupcakes with Nutella BC filling tonight, yummy, yummy, yummy...

omg, I love nutella. Just straight out of the jar is yummy. My favorite thing to make is chocolate cake (usually the "darn good" one here), nutella mousse for filling and ganache as the icing. So many people love it!

Here's a thread with some recipes (I've only used the mouse one), and I think a link to a website with all nutella recipes.

http://forum.cakecentral.com/cake-decorating-ftopict-118471.html

I also made choc chip cookies once and just threw in a 1/4 cup nutella for fun. They were so good with just a hint of nutella and stayed so soft and chewy which for me never happens with cookies.

Hi Jen W -

Nope, no water in the BC. I use a mix of indydebi's recipe and Sugarshack's (with some butter in place of half the shortening):

2lbs powdered sugar
1 envelope of dream whip powder
1 tblsp vanilla extract
1/2-1/3 cup flavoured (or not) hot coffee creamer
half butter/half shortening (about 1/2 cup of each)

So no water. I was puzzled too. Because it had happened to some others, I thought maybe it was a common thing - ? I never thought to ask them what BC recipe they were using, but that's a good call. Because it tasted so great, I'd surely use it again, but I know better this time what to do.

My vote is the vanilla flavoring, even though it's not a LOT of alcohol there is some. Wonder if that could contribute to it?

Oh yeah, and my warm zucchini bread? Had pistachios in it as well! My hubby is going to DIE of happiness! Those are his FAV nuts!
