Flower Nail As Heating Core?? Please Help!

I'm having LOTS of problems w/this technique. I hope someone can help!! My cakes are NOT level when I use this....instead the cake kinda forms a peak around it!!! I make sure it is coated w/cake release before I put it in the batter and have went so far as to measure the pan to make sure it is put in the middle. Not sure what I'm missing!! I'm trying to make a 9x13 pan and the bake even strips won't stay on it.
Any idea what is going wrong!!
Thanks
Christine
It sounds like you're doing it correctly. Do you have an oven thermometer? I think your oven might be too hot. Try baking at a lower temmperature; you'll have to adjust baking time also.
Sounds right to me too. I used that technique today for the first time too with a 14 inch cake and it worked fine.
I agree with beachcakes - your oven might be too hot. Mine was set at 325.
I could never keep the baking strips on the regular 9" x 13" pan .. I bought a MagicLine pan and they stay on that one because it has straight sides.
Check ebay for Pans, or Sugarcraft.com (has a VERY large selection of sizes/shapes), or Kitchenkrafts.com (they just started carrying ML pans recently not sure of their sizes)
