I'm new, so I first have to mention how cool I think this site is...I absolutely love it...I broke night just reading and viewing all that there is here...it's fascinating...I adore and am awed by the talent that's displayed.

I don't have a cake business, but have always been told I should. I enjoy baking for family events mostly...which brings me to the cupcake stand...

The other night I was led here after doing a search for one you can make yourself...I copied and pasted all of Antonia's instructions & (great) tips. The problem is, I can't seem to access that thread again, and for the life of me cannot figure out how the thing joins together...the wooden slats, etc. Even the photo perplexes me...I thought if I looked at it enough, something would click, but no such luck.

So...at the risk of seeming like an idiot, can someone (please) explain it, Sloooooowly.

I downloaded the instructions plus the photos into a PDF document hoping to one day make the stand for myself - I still haven't done it, but I'm still hoping!!

Okay, I'll try to explain this as best as I can...though I didn't make the stand itself and I'm certainly not up on my carpentry terminology, just bear with me!

The stand is made of 4 hollow boxes that are stacked. They don't "join" or "attach" to one another per se...more like they rest upon each other.

The thin sides of the stand are made with strips of MDF so that the box is as light as it could be. (If it was made of wood all over, this thing would be ten times as heavy!!)

Those vertical and horizontal strips of wood that you see inside and on top of the boxes are essentially the "bones" or "frame" for each tier. They suppost the shape, add strength and are ALSO used to connect each box to the next one. See how the vertical pieces would rest in the spaces of the horizontal pieces from the box below? That's the idea, so it doesn't move from side to side when they are stacked.

That circle of silver screws that you see inside the upper box is actually the screws that hold the 4 horizontal wooden slats (on the top) in place for THAT box.

I hope this makes sense? It's hard to explain, but I do hope I've at least made it a bit more clear...and not worse!

Unfortunately, I sold the stand this year and can't photograph it further for more help.

Thanks!! I'm going to copy these instructions into the ones that I already have, and hopefully, one rainy day, I'll make the stand! Too bad I couldn't have bought it from you...

She went to the loving home of a great friend and fellow cake-maker, so I'm not that sad. It's nice to have the spare room...though I miss her at times, lol!
