Satin Gumpaste Or Make Nicholas Lodges??

I was about to order the 2# bucket of premade satin gumpaste from Global Sugar Art and wondered if anyone has used it already and what they thought about it. There's a great sale on it but didn't know if I should try it or just get the Tylose and make Nicholas Lodges gumpaste. Using it to make bows and flowers.

I think that you'll find SatinIce to be the pre-made fondant of choice around here. For the convenience and taste, it's all I use. Well, except for dummy cakes. Then I use Wilton.

Leahs - you mentioned the satin ice fondant but have you used the pre-made Satin Gum paste from GSA or just the fondant?
I've never used the Satin Ice gum paste, but I agree that $7.99 for two pounds is a great price (except that shipping brings that up to $19.13 for me). I've either made my own, added Tylose to Satin Ice fondant or use Wilton's ready-made, which I really like and can buy at JoAnn or Michal's with a 40-50% off coupon almost all the time.
I have tried both and I like both of them but I would use Nicholas Lodge's first. Satin Ice gumpaste is easy to work with and dries up fine. There is also the convience of it already being made. Nicholas Lodge's recipe has to cure in the fridge for 24 hours.
I just bought flowerpaste by Marcela Sanchez from GSA but haven't tried it yet. The red is the perfect color for the roses I have to make and I hate making red gumpaste since it's so hard to achieve a deep red for roses. And the green flowerpaste is perfect for the ivy I have to make.
Now that I read this I see I was of no help at all. LOL.

Satin Ice Gumpaste is just Satin Ice fondant with some tylose added to it! You can "make" it yourself if you like. Grin.
But I am a HUGE HUGE HUGE fan of Nick's recipe. I make a double batch and keep it in the fridge. It the perfect stretch, and dries just perfect everytime, even in humid weather. Just make sure you knead it a nice long time, don't skimp on it!

Hey Jo-Ann, if you add some Claret americolor to your red for roses, it has a really wonderful rich red that makes the roses look real! (I also dust the edges a little with burgandy or claret once I am done)
Thanks loriemoms, I'm going to try that. I hadn't thought of dusting with a burgandy or claret powder. I was looking for a nice deep red dusting powder.
I love Nic Lodge's recipe.. it's BEYOND easy to make and dries perfect in just about any weather. It is bright white too which is nice and takes color very nicely.
I haven't had much luck with the mixes.. CK, Wilton, Bakel's.. all never dried right for me. If you can make the mix.. you can make Nic's recipe and just keep the leftovers wrapped up in a zipper bag in the fridge.. I wrap them in small amounts and take out what I need.

I buy the egg whites in the milk carton that are all white. I dont know if the powder will even work, as well as it has a yellow tint to it. I love how this recipe gives you a NICE WHITE gum paste!

I've made the Nicholas Lodges recipe, it was very easy to make and I've used it for roses and calla lillys. I previously have only used prepared gumpaste. What I've made is very, very hard. When I take it out of the fridge, and have it come to room temperature, it still is much harder than the prepared that I've purchased. Maybe I accidently put in too much tylose?? Would that have caused it, or is it the "home made" just stiffer than the purchased? Thanks
