This topic came up in another thread. I have learned to wear a chef's coat when I deliver a cake. But I kind of dress to match the ocassion too. I mean so long as I am not in the weeds which doesn't happen often.

I usually wear jeans or a jeans skirt and my Mom's pearls, they are long and I tuck them inside my t-shirt so I'm just wearing them for me, feels bridal and comforting somehow.

And the chef coat thing came up because of the surprising positive difference it makes in other people's behavior toward you/me. But I mean it doesn't turn a dweeb into a sweet person but regular people get sweeter.

And when you are in the weeds tossing on a nice clean chef coat over the mess you're wearing totally works--no extra time spent cleaning up. It's not plan A but it's insurance.

What do you wear?

I wear black dress slacks and a white polo...and my black crocs. AND-I never wear my hair down...it's back in a barette or headband or both.

whatever I was decorating the cake in... t shirt and jeans or most likely... with frosting all over them. and flip flops LOL.

I delivered/setup/cut my *1st* big wedding cake on Saturday.....I had to deliver it via a ferry...a 30 minute ride.......
I wore black satiny capris, a hot pink sleeveless blouse, hose, and black shoesmy also my pearl earrings (gift from ds), no other jewelery.....I don't like to get 'dangling' so to speak! ......it was a formal affair. I did not wear anything red, which was the bridal colors.......I wanted to be different, and not blend in with her party. I am thinking of trying to 'put a cake cutting ' outfit together.......just not too sure about a 'chef's coat.'

For setting up, I took my apron, clean and wore my sneakers..I DID NOT TRY TO TAKE IN AND SET UP *3* DIFFERENT TIERS IN PUMPS! The only other vendor there was the DJ...and in about 1/2 an hour, I did change my shoes.......Hair IS ALWAYS UP AND OUT OF THE WAY!

I try to dress for the occassion.

I delivered a cake to a graduation open house yesterday. I wore a white polo shirt, khakis, and my Sperry Top Siders. The open house was being held at a marina, so I blended right in.

I have a pink chefs coat with my company name embroidered on the sleeve. People do love it. I get so many complements on it. I also get "you look so professional". I'm not really doing this as a joke , but I know what they mean. I also try to keep my hair pulled back and put on some makeup. I like to look nice because I think, as my husband LOVES to say, perception is reality.

I usually try to wear nice dark jeans, heels and a black button down shirt. That was I look casual but professional.

Ro40..........................wow A pink one where did you order that from? My cards have a pink backround with a mauve cake on it with flowers. I'd love to have one of those. I always wear a skirt and nice top to deliver and hair is always up.

i suppose mine ''dress' depends on where i'm going next....but yes, i DO pull my hair back.....if i'm not headed somewhere, i'm probably in a pink 'cake' apron, with my pockets full of assembling tools...and some blue jean shorts with my 'house shoes' which are a hideous pair of birkenstocks....no makeup...

that really doesn't sound so good when i put it out there like that....i don't claim to be a professional....although i want to be paid like a professional....every one thinks i'm professional.....

my theory is that when i deliver, usually everyone is setting up for the event....and they are all working....which usually entails the same sort of dress....

looks like santa may be bringing me a chefs coat?

Do any of you find your chef's coat a little clunky??? (for lack of a better word) Maybe it's bulky. I don't know I just feel like I'm clumsier in it or something.

I saw a 3/4 sleeved one in a movie. I would love one of those! then the cuffs wouldn't be getting in the way.

I have several embroidered shirts that display my business name and logo. I have both t'shirt and polo types. I wear them with a nice pair of capris or dress pants (depends on the season and event).

Hair is also pulled back and ALWAYS got a little make up going on and just a little jewelry. I try to look as professional as possible. I wouldn't want to embarass the customer by showing up and not looking presentable.

I'm working on embroidering a chef coat but haven't got around to it yet I really need some shirts with my name screen printed on the back that I can wear out in public for more exposure when I'm running around town.

I got my pink chef's coat from www.chefworks.com It is really cute because it ties in the back for a more fitted look. The sleeves roll up nicely as well and don't get in the way. The style number of the one I am speaking of is SS51-PIN-S. Hope this helps.

I wear a pink chef's jacket also. It has my name and my business name on it. I usually wear jeans for the pants and my chocolate brown chef's crocs. This is also what I wear at the bridal show. I got the woman's chef jacket so it's more fitted.

MY MIL's sister made me a chef coat using a cupcake-patterned fabric. I have worn it with black trousers on the few deliveries that I have made. I know that she used a pattern from one of the big pattern makers, e.g., McCall's. I have since requested her to make me a denim one.

nice to know what everyone else is wearing on delivery days. Me, I usually am wearing my black pants, and a polo shirt, (still waiting to get my logo screened/embroidered onto them), my good sneakers,and a little bit of make up and my hair all pulled back and up. I am also waiting to see if DH gets the hint and gets me my chefs coat I have been whining about, I would like a pink one too.

I also wear a pink chef's coat (with my name embroidered on) and either jeans or black capris. I use to dress nicely and take an aprin, but I prefer the chef's coat. I also read on here something about chef's being offended by us wearing their white coats so I made sure to get a pink one.

I have a company t-shirt that I wear with my name and logo on it. I just wear it with capris or jeans usually.

I usually wear jeans and a nice top or a pink t-shirt (since pink ended up being my 'company color').

I will/plan to get some t-shirts w/my name and stuff on it and then I'll just wear that.

I like it best because it's professional, but comfortable and I need to be comfortable to work.

Good ideas! It's always hard to know what to wear, I think having a designated chef's coat to put on over top is a good plan! Always ready to go, no fussing over wardrobe at the last minute (I always fuss last minute! )

I'm hesitant to wear a chef's coat due to past threads on this topic. I like the idea of wearing a patterned coat though, as I've never seen a chef wear one.

Kinda like when I worked in a hospital.....our department decided to wear scrubs for comfort and because we could. We chose cute patterned ones to differentiate us from the nursing staff that was required to wear all white or white and blue. I feel the same way about the chef's coats.

Off to call mom about finding a pattern. She is retired and needs a project to do anyway.

I generally wear dressy type jeans that are pressed with a crease down the front and a shirt that is clean and pressed. (I would DIE without an iron) and my blue crocs.

I always make sure I have makeup on and style my hair (which could be stiff with sugar).

You never know when you are going to run into a potential bride or another vendor/event coordinator so you don't want to look like dammit!

We'll I have place my order for my jacket.

My husband bought me a black chefs coat for Valentines Day (I wear alot of black, makes you look thinner!) Anyways a girl I work with does the embroidery and he made my logo up, wedding cake with the pink and Angela's Cake Creations. I wore it for my first wedding cake delivery last month and got alot of compliments. I had to run into a store afterwards, forgetting I still have it on and everyone was looking at the logo so its good advertising too! I thinkit looks professional when delivering a cake. Before I was with others. Usually white polo and and beige dress pants/capris. And yes hair and makeup done, would never think of going out if the house without! I love the pink jackets! That will be my next.

I have a chef jacket with my name on it, but I found that I am usually 'overdressed' when I show up with it on at most venues here, even the nice venues--the caterers or any other vendors I see there as early as I arrive, are usually in anything from jeans to shorts (!?), so I don't wear it as much any more. It sort of depends on the "feel" of the whole thing, the venue, the bride, etc.

So I always wear black pants (velvet in winter, slacks in summer) and a white shirt or tan pants and a white shirt. ALWAYS with my hair totally up (it's really long), ALWAYS no tank top style, and ALWAYS with nice new closed-toe shoes.

It gives me an excuse to shop for white tops and new shoes...heehee

Honestly, I hardly ever even see anyone when I drop off a cake, except staff at the venue and occasionally the caterers.
