On my Luau cake I'm working on for tomorrow, I am stacking four 4" tall 6" cake, with tea straw supports and a dowel through to the board, the women never really confirmed for 30 servings, now she is saying 30 - 40, will this cake cover that many servings? I'm guessing for nice size servings she willget about 32 servings.

I'm doing a baseball cake for my godson who LOVES the St. Louis Cardinals, and then an eyeball for a friend whose band has the word "eyes" in it.

I'm going to be trying the WASC recipe for the first time on both and can't wait to see how they come out!

I'm squishing cake balls that I'll make from leftover chocolate cake and dulce du Leche syrup (used as the binder). Super easy. Now I need to make turkey burgers using my leftover white cake. J/K thumbs_up.gif

I get tired just reading about all the cakes you all are doing. I can't imagine how you do it. I am a hobby baker, and I'm doing ONE cake. It's for my groups of friends who get together once a month (we call ourselves the ya-yas) One is having a bd and we just found out shes getting married again. It is a fr vanilla cake with raspberry filling, flowers are fondant/gp, making it look sort of bridal. Good baking all.

Tropical cake for a friend with dophins, fish, sea shell decorations. I am attempting to make a couple to sit on the top of the cake under a palm tree on a sandy beach. They will be hanging out with some sea turtles, sea shells and maybe even a few flowers. I will just have to see how time goes. I am totally excited about it and hope it comes out as well as it looks in my head!

pianocat,

I agree with you on all of this. I wish I was decorating something today, though...instead of cleaning house. icon_sad.gif

I just finished four dozen cupcakes baked in Chinese takeout boxes for my company picnic. They are so cute. Then I have a small bridal shower cake for Sunday. Of course, I have to wedge that in between my daughter's softball game, a Bunco party, my other daughter's bridesmaid stuff, and putting my house back together after a hardwood floor install this week. My fridge is in my garage. That is SO NOT handy!!

I finished this cake last night at about 1am!! My son was having nightmares most of the night so I was up and down with him and trying to finish this at the same time.

It is for a friend who is pregnant that a few of us are going to see toinght and thought we would suprise her with a mini shower. It is my first stacked cake and also my first time working with fondant! I am very happy with how it turned out.

When I arrived at work this morning at 7:30 there was a message saying that the dinner might be cancelled and I thought I was going to cry.. icon_cry.gif ..all that work for nothing....but I convinced them to all come...phew!! icon_biggrin.gif

I don't have anything else until the middle of August unless I get the urge before then (which I am sure I will)

I just finished up wedding cake number 3 for this weekend. I have had a really off week, I think the heat is getting to me. I have a five tier fondant cake that has no decorations on it (live flowers are going on it at the site) and my fondant has the middle age bulge on all tiers. I think I put too much mousse in them. My DH says they look fine, that you can't have PERFECT fondant. I hate this always happens when you have a cake you can't cover any flaws with! I am hoping the lighting is real low at the reception site! haha

I also did a tropical wedding cake, it is three tiered coral color (buttercream) with white gumpaste flowers and will sit on a blue fountain on the site. I think it is very different!

The other one is a simply little two tiered stacked cake with bows on it..it is a navy blue color! (which was the worse time I have ever had mixing buttercream...It just wouldn't get dark enough! I went thorugh half a jar of color!

I also did an x box cake and some kitchen cakes. I am glad my week is over (just gotta deliver tomorrow) as I am having friends over this evening and get to actually clean my house. (I know it sounds wierd, but cleaning is my therapy and I never get to clean during wedding season!) (I actually made a little bostom cream pie from some cake I had in the freezer..its nice ot make cake for ourselves once in a while!)

Have a great weekend everyone!

This weekend I'm working on two birthday cake. One for a 16 year old (a football) and the other for a 40 year old (three tiered gift box - last minute choice of style by client). I have a full time job and very active at church. I'll post pictures when done.

Oh...BTW, how would you make "tissue paper for a gift box" out of gumpaste? Do you roll it very thin and dry on crumpled paper?
That's what I'm planning on doing. Any other ideas out there?

Thanks a bunch,

Jeannie

I have a three tiered christening cake to do, all my gumpaste flowers are made and the cross too, have the last layer in the oven now. I also have a 2 tiered princess cake with a royal icing tiara ( which was my first experience making one of these) I am a nervous reck about taking it off the wax paper. I am leaving it dry until Sunday morning so it is EXTRA dry...wish me luck!!! I also drew a tiara template that I will post as well. Good luck to all of you with your baking...I am glad I don't have as many as last weekend. I went to sleep at 6:30am last Saturday from 3 killer cakes!

Dh is pressing to go legit and earn some money at this cake thing... For now just hobbyist but of course in order to earn a living at it, you must show off cakery abilities to potential clients so.....

. . . offered me up to do the retirement cake for retiring employee. Feeding 260 ppl a replica of the company building, baking in a conventional oven, one at a time 11x15 sheets... agh!!!

He offered to ''help me'' when he comes home from work, but his ''help'' is making me more tired LOL
I don't mean to sound like a (as my future daughter-in-law would say)Complain McClain, I absolutely love doing cakes, but am just a bit overwhelmed and in procratisation mode...

I talked him into a convection oven last might and am excited about that anyway icon_biggrin.gif

I guess I have procrastinated long enough...
thanks for the diversion!

I'm doing a two tier German's chocolate cake, the first tier filled and iced w/ coconut/pecan icing, the second tier filled w/choc fudge and wrapped in white chocolate fondant to look like a toilet paper roll icon_lol.gif and a wadded up "sheet" with some choice words and even a skid mark... (his brothers are really gross) for the b-day boy who is turning 50. He is also getting 4 doz. "butt" NFSC (upside down hearts w/ tip cut off to look like hineys) w/ fancy undies piped out of RI icon_lol.gif
I'm also doing a pretty girly (my favorite kind) white cake w/splenda instead of sugar, I hope it turns out well, with a mini quilt out of chocolate fondant and some pretty carnations and mini bow, it's going to be sooo cute icon_smile.gif

I just finished a two tier Wizard of Oz themed cake. It was for a wedding shower. The bottom tier is a butter cake, the top tier is tuxedo. Not very imaginative flavors, but it's what they wanted. Cream cheese buttercream filled. Yawn.
