I have made a football helmet cake twice and everytime I make the face guard out of fondant it breaks. I even let it set up for about a week. What am I doing wrong? Should I be using gumpaste instead?

Yes, you should be using gumpaste. Or fondant with a good bit of tylose mixed in. Or, gumpaste with a little fondant mixed in to extend its workability time. Good luck!

Yes, just as DiameLM suggested, try gumpaste or 50/50 (50% fondant, 50% gumpaste) or fondant w/ tylose. They dry stronger and harder than 100% fondant.

Thank you so much. Is gum paste edible? I have read in some places that it is not and others that it is.
