I have a big princess cake to do for Saturday - wonder mold skirt on 14" round - and, as I got the pans out tonight, I have a piece missing. It's that hollow metal rod that goes up through the center of the pan - I vaguely remember not knowing where it went the last time I used it! Any suggestions for how I could jerryrig the pan so I don't have to go buy a new one just for that rod??? (A really rotten person would probably go snitch one out of a box at Michael's, unfortunately! )I'm guessing that it only acts as a heating core - right? All help will be appreciated! Thanks - PAT

there must be a way since I see lots of people making similar cakes in pampered chef or pyrex type mixing bowls and I doubt they come with a heating core...

I know - I've done spider bodies in mixing bowls before and I think they were fine...but this one is for $$$$$ and I want to be positive!!!!! Thanks - PAT

I've baked the wondermold pan without the middle rod. Just bake it at 325. it takes a little longer but all of mine have come out fine. Hope that helps?

I'm glad you brought this up. I bought a Wondermold pan at a thrift store and didn't realize it was missing the heating rod until months later when I wanted to use it. Thanks for the advice!

I emailed wilton and told them I lost that part and asked if I could buy it and they sent me a new one free of charge.

OOh - that's good to know! Ironically, the first wondermold pan I bought was missing the nut (screw?) and bolt!!!! Exchanged that one! I'm glad Wilton handled it well for you - I'll remember that.
