Short question.. I'm decorating a cake now. I'm putting a red shell border around the edible image. Do ya'll think the red will run into the image or into the white the cake is iced with? The cake is for the Fire Dept 20th Anniversary on Sat. Do I need to do it the last minute or could I do it today? I have another cake due tomorrow so I had to get this one done today. I haven't done very many cakes with red on them. Thanks for the answers!

TC I have yet learned to make RED icing.. LOL I even bought wilton and ameri color.. I've added it to MMF though.. and I added the MMF to a whipped cream icing and it did not bleed through. although I did have it in the fridge before serving.. Hope this helps!!

I have done a few cakes with red but I don't ever recall the red buttercream "running".

You should be fine with finishing the cake as usual.

Here is a pic of one with lots of red and no running.

Good luck!

icon_biggrin.gif Helloooooo Tina,

I have done a few cakes with the Red and on white bc and I think it should be Fine to do today. I haven't had any problems with it bleeding into the white. My Elmo cake is as red as you can get and he didn't bleed into the white. he is posted. but couldn't get him small enough to post right here for you. Sorry icon_redface.gif but if you put it on the white.. you better be sure that is where you want it. It may stain it if you need to remove it for any reason wait until it is dry.
Hope this helps you!
Have a Great Day!

Thanks ya'll! I went ahead & did it. Darn if I didn't forget to put the last "r" in Anniversary!!! I had to take the "y" off but it didn't leave any red so I think I'm good. The biggest thing I am worried about is heat. I've have a fan blowing on the cake to keep it cooler. It is sooo hot today!! Even in the house. The cake is great! I can't wait to post it.

Fishercakes, I've always loved the Chief cake you posted!! It is awesome!!!! If the red doesn't run in that then I believe you!! Amazing work on that cake!! The other one is good to!
Thanks!!!

Briansbaker I don't like working with red. It just stains your hands & anything it comes in contact with. I'm actually glad I don't have time to do the 3D fire truck because of the red icing. Thanks for answering my post!
