So I've known about this cake for weeks. Didn't get the supplies money till yesterday, but no biggie, since I really couldn't do much in advance anyhow, as I like to make things as fresh as possible. icon_razz.gif

So for those experienced bakers out there... when will I learn??? LOL When will it finally sink in that perhaps baking the day before, and not starting the decorating till 11pm the night before, might not be the best idea???

Seriously... I'm gonna be up all night. Ah well. My own fault. Good thing I drank so much caffeine this evening, huh? icon_razz.gif

To anyone else out there who's plans went awry or you underestimated how much time you needed, and are going to be up all night finishing up... I'm feelin' ya! icon_smile.gif

Just wanted to share.

*going back to the store for vanilla, since Goober Self didn't remember to check that LAST time she went to the store. Gotta keep Goober Self out of these projects! She screws them up a lot... icon_razz.gif*

Shoot, don't talk to me about it, it's 1:20 am here and I'm up still decorating. I have another cake to decorate yet and it will wait till morning, delivery isn't until 7pm though thank goodness. I just started baking at 4pm because I decided it was more important to take my kids to the zoo, now I'm up waiting for my chocolate to harden enough so I can move on to the next phase of the cake. Oh and tomorrow I need another 1# of strawberries for my cake that I forgot so your not the only goober.

DoniB and mkolmar...you both have me laughing icon_lol.gif ! It's 0130 here and I'm at work, but I'd much rather be decorating cake! I do the same thing though...I have the best plans for starting in advance, not waiting until the last minute, and then, for some stupid reason I wait till the last minute icon_eek.gif . How does that happen icon_surprised.gif ?? Life gets in the way most of the time icon_rolleyes.gif , oh, and kids, and then there's that need for sleep. Thank God for Dunkin' Donuts coffee thumbs_up.gif !!

Happy decorating!!! icon_biggrin.gif

You two aren't the only goobers. icon_lol.gif It's 10:30 pm here, and I just put a cake in the oven to make a 3D Transformers bumblebee, because I am a huge sap! I can't tell the cute little twin boys no when they say, "I want Optimus Prime, AND bumblebee! PLEASE Toria!"

UGH!!! And I have to have both done and delivered by 2 pm

What your names are Goober too?! I have a cake due at 10am (its 2am now) and I had the cakes made since noon but decided to go see the Hulk. Anyway, I'm supposed to use a gems theme and got the bright idea to make gems out of hard candy, which I've never done before. They are downstairs stuck to my counter and I decided I've had enough so here I am. Man I'm in deep do do!

ROFLMAO!!!!

I'm so glad I'm not alone!!! I just had to run out to Walmart and get vanilla. Sigh. Good thing they're open 24 hours! icon_razz.gif And it was a nice break.

But it's a bit after 2am, I've got the main cake iced and grassed, but the others are still waiting. Had to wait to make the icing, since... you guessed it... didn't have any vanilla. LOL So now I'm waiting for my colors to sit and hopefully deepen, then I'll be icing the cakes. Sigh.

One of these days...

At least I'm in good company! LOL

Wow, and here I thought I was all alone. LOL. At least I am finally done my cake at 2:00 AM here. I need to remember from now on to start with the largest tier and decorate up to the smallest. Looking at how much cake I had left to "swiss dot" on the big tier right at the end was brutal. GL to those of you still going, I myself am going to bed. zzzzzzz

I'm just finishing up my only (thank goodness) cake for tomorrow!! I'm just letting the bc crust a bit to tamp down the tips!

However - on top of the "I want to do tomorrow' and the massive need to clean house since I will be doing a wedding cake testing tomorrow evening -- tomorrow (actually today) won't be a walk in the park - if you know what I mean.

I -- like mushbug9 am heading to bed

Goodnight All!

and Good Luck!

Karabear, I'm still with you. icon_razz.gif I've got things to the point where I'm either waiting for them to crust so I can smooth, or waiting for colors to deepen. icon_razz.gif Oh, and one more cake, since one of them fell (thanks, puppy!) and I ended up having to bake another ball cake! eeep! So that's still to come out of the oven. Guess which one gets decorated LAST? icon_razz.gif

But for right now, the main cake is done, the basketball cake is ready for black lines, the cupcakes are almost ready for embellishments, and the smash cake is ready for red lines (it's supposed to look like a baseball).

I still need to roll out a few fondant 'extras', and am debating making some MMF for that... but I have a box of Wilton, and I figure if I just tell folks not to eat it, it'll be fine. It's ready, all I have to do is color it and go on with life. icon_razz.gif

I'm procrastinating too... but man, it's good to get off my feet for a few minutes! LOL

haha... It's 3 am and I just finished my first cake.. time to start cake number 2..... not due till 11 so I'll get it done...but I couldn't start on it till the hubby brought home butter... I always forget to grab more butter!

I'm on a roll now though... might even get a nap in before I have dinner with the in-laws. icon_smile.gif It's nice to have some "cake night" company!!

I'm still here too. It's 1:05 am in Arizona. I just finished carving and crumbcoating the truck, and I have it in the fridge. I still have the Bumblebee to carve. What a mess!! Someone please tell me why I volunteer for this!! Hopefully, I will be able to go to bed after carving the car, and just get to piping like crazy tomorrow.

Did I mention that I have to drive these cakes for 45 minutes in 100+ degree heat? What was I thinking? icon_lol.gif

*grin* Hmmm... maybe I should start this thread any time I'm up all night... maybe start a trend! LOL Folks can catch a few minutes of sit-down time in the middle of the night, and have cake company. icon_smile.gif

It's close to 5am here in NC, and in about an hour, my sweetie will be up and getting ready for work. I have to leave with this cake no later than 9:30, so I'm scrambling to get it all done! LOL So far, though, it looks like it's going to work out... I certainly hope so! I'd hate to ruin a little boy's first birthday!

Cool thing for this cake: He's never had cake before. His mom wanted his first bite to be of his first birthday cake. Teehee... my cake will be the first one this kid ever tastes. I'm doing WASC with buttercream for the smash cake, because she didn't want chocolate, and didn't want too many 'strange' flavors to start him off. icon_razz.gif

okay... I've babbled enough for right now. Still working on RKT bats... icon_razz.gif

have fun, ladies! Holler anytime. I'm checking back in about half an hour...

Well it's 5:30 am Eastern time here, birds chirping and all! ACK!

Surprisingly enough I'm not that tired, just my feet are hurting! Its break time! Sure is nice to have the company of my fellow cakers! icon_biggrin.gif

Well I knocked out 2 of the half sheet cakes and just have the 3 square tier to dowel and stack (told you I was procrastinating that one!) and some fondant baby feet and baby hearts and slap some booties on the top and call it a day.

Doni that is to awesome, how sweet his first birthday cake from you! I love that!

Are we the only ones left? haha

I'm here, but just barely. icon_razz.gif I"ve reached another stopping point, and am taking a short break to take my sweetie to work. I need the break and the centering time, anyhow. icon_smile.gif And the coffeeeeeeee!!!

I'm with you... my feet hurt, but I'm surprisingly awake. And almost done. I figure I have about an hour and a half left, so in three hours, I should be done. LOL I'm taking pics as I go, but none uploaded yet.

I'm hoping that folks that have been here tonight will share their pics, or at least link us to them in their photo albums. I want to see, too!!!! icon_smile.gif

Good luck getting that thing stacked!

And wish me luck getting this thing to where it's going... 30 cupcakes, a smash cake, 12" four layer, and two ball cakes. The 12" has a duffel bag and a RKT baseball on top, too. Wheeeeee!!!!

I must be insane. Remind me why I love this so much??? Please??? icon_razz.gif

I promise mine will be up this evening or by first thing tomorrow morning. icon_smile.gif

I can't wait, either, to see everyone's pics. icon_smile.gif

I'm headed for the shower, then out the door. I can't believe I actually finished in only 10 minutes past the time I needed to (has to be there by 11, and it's just over an hour's drive)! Woohoo!!!!

I'm up -- It's just after 9:00 a.m. here -- DH said cake looked good and wasn't I glad that I went ahead and stayed up to get it finished (& started LOL) -- instead of getting up early this morning and having to do it?!?

UHMMM -- he's lucky that I didn't have anything heavy or sharp in my hand to throw at him! See -- he went right to sleep after he said that to me -- so he had 5 hours down before I even hit the bed! UgH!

I will post a pic later -- I know I didn't have has many has everyone else here -- but I did procrastinate pretty bad on getting it going!

This is how I feel most days! only my hubby stays up and says "How much longer are you gonna be? Are we going to bed soon?" And I am thinking all the while, "Go away and let me work!!"

Hubby is out of town this weekend, so it is peaceful this weekend though.
