Wedding Cake Design Help Me!!!

i've been showing some pictures to a bride on styles of cakes to see what she wants.. the 2 pictures below are what she fell in love with... she loves the colors and the flowers on the tiered cake that goes through the shades of blue, but loves the construction design of the other cake... her words were if i could combine the 2 and come up with something it would be her dream cake.. i'm lost!! help...
i don't think it would look right with the different shades doing it the way with the fountain... any help would be appreciated...
First, I just saw the 2nd cake a few days ago and just fell in love with it ... luv the color shading and so admired the skill it took to do it right!
Second, I'm one of those old ladies who remembers fondly the days of fountains and stairs .... sorry, but I LIKE cakes with fountains! ...... but even *I* think you are right in that it would be too much. Not necessarily too much color, but just TOO MUCH. Too much space, too much color difference, too much distraction.
This may be where the arguments that everyone makes against the "plastic" look of the fountains/stairs has merit ..... If the fountain equipment was also blue, she MIGHT (MIGHT!!!!!) be able to pull it off. But I think what is giving me a problem is all of that white will be a stark contrast to the pattern of ascending colors on the cake.
If she is looking for a grand cake and she's narrowed it down to these two pics, can I assume she is ordering enough cake to do 4, maybe 5, tiers? If so, she IS going to have a grand looking cake, even without the fountain. If it's the extra height she's looking for, perhaps you can suggest putting the 4-5 tier cake on a plateau?
Like I said, I LUV cakes with fountains, so if *I* think it's too much .....
originally the bride just wanted a small cake with a fountain.. then i started showing her pictures just to find colors and she found these that she LOVED! lol i just dont know what to do.. i think this cake needs to be a stacked cake if she wants the flowers..anyone agree?? does anyone have any ideas on the fountain?? i don't know if she has her heart set on it... i'm still kinda lost on the entire cake though..
what about doing the blue stacked cake as is and possibly doing a small grooms cake with a fountain?
OR... what if the blue stacked cake was on a diagonal with the small white top cake on a fountain. Imagine 5 tiers each with thier own clear stand largest on the bottom, go up three inches, next tier,etc... and the when you get to the top tier the small white put it on a small fountain.
I DON'T KNOW JUST MY BRAIN GOING CRAZY.
I would agree with indydebi, I think all of that together will be too much for one cake...However the way Alamosweets combined them together maybe something you could work with and the bride might like..
I'm not a fountain/pillar person but I actually think the way alamosweets put it could work, I kinda like it!!!
what if you did the shading diagonally, I am pretty new to cake decorating so I don't really know "HOW" hard that would be...
but you would start at either corner and go from light to dark or dark to light.
alamosweets...that's too cool. ...but i think that's way too much blue. maybe if you did it how alamosweets showed you, but made the cake white leaving everything else just like in the picture.
I have to agree with indydebi the clear pillars really make a difference acually looks like a workable cake that way.
omg!! THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH FOR ALL OF YOUR HELP!! that image is amazing by the way!! i will def. have to post what the final decision is..
just an update... i showed the bride the new picture... SHE LOVES IT!! she told me she even got alil teary!! aww.. thank you sooo much again for all of your help everyone!!
