Cake civilians just don't understand how durable cakes really are. At one of my weddings, I was standing in the corner during the cake cutting pic. They were cutting into the bottom tier. A very sweet, gray haired lady said to the person next to her, "Oh my god, they've cut the bottom cake! I hope it doesn't fall over!!!!" I leaned down and said to her, "Don't worry .... I've never had a cake topple yet!" Bless her heart, she pressed her hand to her heart and said, "oh my .... good!!!"

But she thought if they cut a 1x2" piece of cake from the bottom tier, then the whole cake would just topple over!

I swear that when she came by, I'd have 8x10 blow-ups of those photos sitting on my counter and say, "Lovely cake cutting ceremony. The stacked cake looks great for having been standing for so many hours. Now, what was it you wanted to discuss?????"

She's just got buyer's remorse because she only needed a sheetcake but wanted the cache of a big stacked to-do icon_confused.gif

She's going on a diet after seeing her wedding photos and she can't consume all of the leftovers and she wants to shift the problem to you so that she can get some money back so she can order Nutri-System???

Tell her to take a flyin' leap!

The cake looks lovely. The bride, on the other hand, needed a slip that covered the area between her bra and pants.

The picture of them feeding each other cake with the cake standing tall and proud next to them is proof enough. I don't think that refusing to give her a refund will hurt your business at all. She probably took the wedding gown back and tried to get a refund too, probably without even springing for dry cleaning to make it look like it wasn't worn icon_biggrin.gif some people are just like that.

LOL, Texas_Rose, I was thinking the same thing... There is no way in heck I'd put my butt in a dress like that and not have a girdle on.

No offense, but you should probably have blurred out the faces of the bride and groom before posting those pictures. I'm not sure if it's a CC rule or not, but I know I wouldn't want someone posting my face in a rant on the internet, even if I was acting like an idiot and having unreasonable expectations.

The cake is lovely, it looks great, and you need a magnifying glass to see that tiny crack in the icing! NO REFUND!

Now, I'n not trying to be a b*tch here, but is the bride pregnant (she looks it)? If she is, then maybe the hormones are going loopy, if not, well then that was the wrong choice of dress lol!

What's amazing to me is that the bride was so consumed with the cake and how much of it was left over and so forth. At my wedding, I was there when my cake was delivered and set up. Then I got married. At the reception, I peeked at the cake with my new DH. It was still beautiful. After we did the whole cutting ceremony thing, I never looked at it or thought about it again. I ate, drank, danced and enjoyed my guests. Then I went to my new home and left for my honeymoon the next day. After the honeymoon my Mom gave us the packaged top tier to save. Other then that, I have NO idea what happened to the leftovers or even if there were any.

This gal's new DH must have had a grand reception and honeymoon if this is how his new wife has chosen to spend their first days of wedded bliss. Come On! Is there nothing better for her to do?


I am glad you are not feeling badly about yourself or your work. You produced a lovely cake for a bargain price. thumbs_up.gif

The cake looks great throughout all the pictures. I too remember my wedding/cutting/toasting portion of our reception and after that we just had fun with the guests. My DH was bummed he didn't get more of our cake after the fact - the anniversary cake was some of the grooms cake icon_confused.gif - don't get him started on that. Anyway, I think you did a fine outstanding job on the cake. When you meet with her, let her take the lead? Maybe? There is nothing to apologize for AT ALL. Let her "rant" and offer nothing - you don't need to.

Told ya she shoved cake in her grooms face icon_twisted.gif

I STILL see nothing wrong with the cake. Even if she does put up a big fuss about a refund, and you end up in court, those pictures alone speak a thousand words. I think she is just trying to get extra money.

I would not refund or offer a discount. I'd cut this one loose and make a mental note to not do anymore cakes for this client.
