I have only done one other stack cake in Wilton Course 3 and that was awhile ago. What do I put under the top layer? Do I cover the cake board on the top tier but what about the bottom of the cake board?
Thanks
Usually I will make a cake board covered in contact paper for the bottom of the cakes, I will go in 1/2 inch smaller than the cake.
Thanks for the help. The board doesn't soak up grease from the cake or the frosting from the layer under it?
These cake boards (the ones actually MADE for cakes) are durable.. they are made to hold up not soak in grease etc.
If you have a 3 tiered cake you have a cake plate under the boards anyways....or at least I do... some people use foam core.. I use those for my bottom cakes but not for my top tiers.
I use the sps (single plate system) for all of my stacked cakes... if transported more then a couple of miles... if I think the cake will give me problems I use them then also .
Christi,
Are you using the Wilton cake boards? Those are what I use but I have always covered them in foil... maybe I can skip this step.
Yes Ma'am those are the ones
You most definately can skip this step
the less steps the better
Excellent!!! I love to be able to skip steps and still have good results
BTW, I am using SPS for the first time for a 3 tiered cake this weekend. I am looking forward to this!

OK, this might be a silly question (clearly I'm a newbie ) but if you cover the cake board in contact paper can you use them over and over again since they are protected with the paper?
They are sooo cheap though floophs you wouldn't want to even try to get them back
Just would be a worry that you didn't need to worry about lol
Thanks for the tip...I'm going to JoAnn's today so I'll have to get some. I've have yet to stack cakes so maybe now's the time to start!
Let us know how you like SPS.
I delivered my cake today (used SPS for the first time) and I am sold! Easy to use, so easy to stack the cakes, sturdy...
Leah, thank you so much for your instructions on using SPS! BTW, is Bakery Crafts giving you a percentage of their sales? They should!!!
LOL, I wish. I just like to spread the news when I find something that is clearly good and easy!!
I'm not familiar with SPS. Can you tell me about it?
I was going to ask the same thing.
SPS is a support system for cakes. Just PM me with your email address and I'll send you the instructions.
