I have to decorate a cake tonight that has fondant wire decorations (butterflies, bees & flowers on the ends of wire) that will come out of the top of the cake. Similar to this one (pic also attached): http://www.flickr.com/photos/cakesbysugargirl/2470145135/ I was planning on making them last weekend, but got busy and kept putting it off. Now, I have no choice but to get them done tonight because I have to deliver the cake tomorrow morning. Is it too late to use fondant or would I have better success trying to use royal icing? Anything I can do to make the fondant dry faster? Any suggestions you have will be greatly appreciated!

I add gumtex powder to the fondant and it helps it get rock hard like gumpaste. I buy my gumtex at the local craft store.

Turn the light on in your oven, lay them on a tray with the door closed. The heat from the light is enough to make the oven warm enough to dry them a bit faster. I don't think RI would be dry in time. Either way, make extras....and good luck! icon_smile.gif

It turned out really cute..thanks for the suggestions. I added gumtex powder to the fondant and then after the pieces were cut out, put them in the oven while I was finishing the cake. By this morning they were hard as bricks! I took some pics but haven't been able to upload them today because my husband needed the camera. I'll try to get them loaded later this evening.

I finally got my pics off the camera and cropped. I made the wire decorations, but didn't put them in the cake so there are pics of the cake and then pics of the decorations.

Standard buttercream and the bees are buttercream (except the wings..I used 1/2 of a butterfly out of fondant for the bees' wings). Flowers & butterflies were fondant. I am hoping to get a picture of the cake with the decorations in place.
