Hi girls! Sorry I'm late to the party here but I've been around for years. Currently in Woodstock, but I've been all over KW, Cambridge, Brantford and London.
I'm really surprised by the number of people who say the Bulk Barn Virgin Ice is soft and unworkable. I've been using this for years and although it's pricy, it's worked great for me. I've done several figures with this fondant and have had zero problems with it. It holds it's shape perfectly for me.
Now McCall's fondant on the other hand, was pure garbage for me. I took a trip to Golda's and picked up their giant pail (big mistake). This stuff is way too soft and doesn't take colour at all! I used wilton purple icing colour and it came out a weird bluish colour...terrible. The only thing this stuff was good for was covering plain white cakes. I ended up tossing about 1/2 the darn pail out.
I've been to Klara Johnson's in Cambridge and as one other poster pointed out, their stock is very limited, but it was the first place I was able to locate luster dust years ago.
I often take trips to Port Huron as well and have never found a decent cake store so I'm excited for the next visit...I will definitely check out Create-a-cake. One thing of note about Walmart US is that they carry a lot of the Wilton stuff for dirt cheap. I bought dowel rods for $1.50 a package last time and the bulk barn carries them for $5.99!!!! No kidding!
hi ladies... I am also from london... dawn fondant can be bought at a small bakery/store on gainsborough road .... the name slips me.. just past a plant nursery on the left... if you hit hyde park, you have gone to far... ahh.. the name will come to me... hope this helps... the fondant is good, but... I find it a little too oily... satin ice it's not ladies all your cake and cookies are wonderful
just had to pop in and say that I love the Virgin Ice from Bulk Barn.. I know it's expensive, but it works like a charm every single time! Great consistancy.

I found this to be a rather inexpensive fondant? Where do you live, and how much are they charging there?

I live in Oshawa, and for white it's $15.99 for a 4lb bucket (which for me only covers 2 1/2 sheet cakes)... and for any other colour it's $18.99.
I just say it's expensive because at Mccaul's you can get the 10KG pail for something like $30 (can't remember the exact price)
Where are you from, is it cheaper where you are?
Hi everyone! I've used the virgin ice a lot (from bulk barn) and it actually tastes quite nice. It's easy to work with and there are about 10 or so colours to choose from.
Does anyone know if Bulk barn ships? I live in Yellowknife and have been ordering from Golda's, but if I can get decent fondant for cheaper - I'd be crazy not to!!

It's the same, but I only have Michaels to compare to. And two pounds of Duff fondant is $30! That's expensive! I have been told that I can buy pails of Satin Ice from the manufactuerer (in TO area) and it's about the same as McColls sounds like. Buying wholesale vs retail is never a fair comparison!

Yeah thats the thing right? I stopped at this place called flour confections in Pickering on my way home from work, they sell satin ice, and fondix and some other kind.. THEY were expensive! The satin ice was $20 for a 2lb pail.. I think Ill stick with either making my own or the virgin ice!
Hi all, just a quick clarification...
The Satin Ice was $20 for a 2lb pail
We/Flour Confections does not carry Satin Ice in 2 lbs pails - only 2.5 kg (5 lbs) and 10 kg (22 lbs).

Oops, my apologies, I must have been looking at the Elite?
Hi cakification, it could be... Elite is much more expensive... Although, because its of its white chocolate base, elite by Fondx will not crack.

I'm in Ottawa On.
I have acutally found a Satin Ice dealer thru Kijiji. It's realitivly inexpensive.
But I also like Virgin Ice from Bulk Barn, and now that they are selling colours, it makes it much easier
I get my satin ice fondant from a girl in Lasalle which isnt far from you and her prices are very good her husband delivered them to me for a small fee to London you can find her on Kijiji(windsor) in the seach field put in SATIN ICE ROLLED FONDANT.
Hey Martha, I am in London too!!!
I checked the shipping prices and they were not too bad actually, the icing was the expensive part. I have been looking for somewhere in Detroit or Port Huron that I could buy it cheaper but have not come up with anywhere yet, I will keep looking and let you know if I find anything.
Where in TO is the Golda's Kitchen store?

I live in Toronto, Ontario and use Satin Ice fondant and gumpaste. Ammazing products and well priced.
I buy my Satin Ice and supplies at L&M BAKERS SUPPLY CO. it's on Steeles (2501 Steeles Ave I think is the address) in Toronto. People are SO friendly there and ammazing fast service. When I can't get there, they ship by courier. Good prices!!
They carry Satin Ice in a variety of sizes, 2lbs 2.5 kg, 5 kg, and 10kg - also in a variety of colours!
Hi.
I live in London, ON and have found 2 stores close to home that sell/ship cake items. The first store is Scoops and Cakes in St. Thomas on Talbot Street. I haven't been there yet but according to their website they sell Satin Ice. The other store is Too Nice To Slice in Kitchener. I have purchased molds and impression mats from them and had them shipped to the house. Either store is a short drive and would make a nice day trip.
Hope this helps.

Hello. I live in Windsor and I would love to be able to purchase Satin Ice locally and avoid all the shipping waits. I searched on Kijiji and I cannot find an add called Satin Ice Rolled Fondant. Do you have any information on how/where I can get in contact with this person who sells it? Please and thank you.
I heard Fondx performs better than Satin Ice. Anyone has used it and any recommendation or review on Satin Ice vs Fondx Fondant.
