I made this for a co-worker who was hosting a bridal shower. It was a huge hit and the future bride was so happy with it. We were showing the pictures around work and one person said that my cake was inappropriate for a bridal shower. One more chimed in and said the same thing. I love and welcome constructive criticism but I really thought this comment was mean spirited. The irony, the one who chimed in wants me to make a cake for her because she is hosting a bridal shower at the end of the month. I'm thinking not with a 10ft pole and a 50ft extension am I going to even consider making a cake for her. Wal-Mart sells sheet cakes that would be appropriate. Anyway, I'm just ranting. My question is, does this look like a wedding cake? Whoops, I can't figure out how to add an attachment. I'm a computer dummy. The picture is in my photos. Sorry about that.

First off... what does it matter if they don't think it is appropriate for a bridal shower? The bride to be loved it and that is what matters.

That is like saying a stack of tiffany boxes or a stack of luggage (or even a cake to look like you) is inapprpriate for a wedding cake. What does it matter? It reflects the couple and they love it. If they don't like the cake then it is a good thing they didn't pay for it.

OH.. and I think it is very pretty and nice for a bridal shower. I like the stacked traditional cake and then the bridal gown on top. Very nicely done.

I think your cake is BEAUTIFUL!

Tell the two old spinsters at your office that nobody would cry if they didn't have a slice of it. icon_cool.gif Maybe you should decline doing the cake SHE wanted by telling her you'd never want to risk "offending" her and her obviously over-sensitive delicate nature. icon_twisted.gif Maybe Walmart is more bland and conservative to suit her puritan cake needs.

Honestly, by the title of your post, I thought perhaps it was going to be a naughty XXX cake or something. icon_lol.gif

I cannot believe anyone would say that. I think your cake is absolutely EXQUISITE! I can't get over how awesome it is, and I'm not just blowing smoke, lol. I really don't think I can't get across how wonderful this cake is, and to answer your question, yes, I think it does look like a wedding/bridal cake.....I mean, come on! It has her wedding dress on top of it!

I'm mad for you! LOL.

Clearly, those 2 are "cake illiterates! That cake is lovely and sooooooooo appropriate for a bridal shower!

I'd make a point of telling the one dufus who wants you to make her cake that you're very sorry you won't be able to do it--after all, you certainly can't risk making ANOTHER cake that isn't APPROPRIATE for a bridal shower icon_evil.gif

So, just how GREEN with envy were they when they made their idiotic pronouncement ?????icon_lol.gif

Sheesh.........

I agree, they are obviously morons and you should definitely direct them to Walmart if they think this cake is inappropriate b/c they don't have any taste. I love it. Great job!

I love it. I think it is fine for a wedding cake or a bridal shower if that is what the bride wants. Because it should be her day.

Maybe you should get some Walmart bakery business cards made up so when the cake police catch you doing things they don't like, they will know where to go to get their cakes. Even if they thought it was inappropriate (which I disagree with) commenting on it shows a complete lack of class.

Thanks everyone. See, I KNEW I could count on my fellow cake buddies to take my side. I was just ranting and wanted to get a few other opinions. BTW...I have been decorating cakes for a year now and I haven't posted any other photos because I can't hold a candle next to all of you. It makes me feel good when you say that you like my cake. icon_biggrin.gif

Sooooo, what's not appropriate? icon_confused.gif I don't get it. It looks like a bridal shower cake to me...someone must be "jealous"??

I love it, you did an awsome job and it's very creative!

OMG! I LOVE THAT CAKE It's gorgeous! I love the colors, the design, the separater between the bottom 2 tiers & the dress, the DRESS!!! OMG! not only is this perfectly appropriate for a bridal shower, but with todays more contemporary wedding designs, it would make a SMASHING wedding cake! simply gorgeous. i think the two that made the comments were just jealous. youshould be more than proud of yourself. plus, all that really matters is that the people who ordered the cake (the BRIDE) LOVED the cake. even it was a butt ugly, inappropriate cake, if it turns out the way the bride wants it and SHE loves it, that's what matters

Yep... mean spirited comments for sure. There are no rules about what kind of cake should be served at a wedding shower, I mean really. I think the cake is lovely! Ignore those comments or chalk them up to jealousy... so sorry you were subjected to those classless people.

3 words:

They

Are

Idiots.

Lovely cake, stupid people. I have done many dress cakes and stacked cakes for wedding showers. I guess they have only been to Wal-Mart sheet cake showers (no offense to Wal-Mart, but you get my meaning).

I think that your cake is awesome!

Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dumb are crazy!!
I would've said, "Well, #1- the cake is a wedding dress for a B-R-I-D-A-L shower. #2, The customer gets what the customer wants. I aim to please. Bye!"

Your cake is absolutely beautiful. Forget the HATERS, because that is all they are. As for that one who wants you to make her a cake, well, tell her to go find an "appropriate" cake somewhere else.

Inappropriate?!! There are only two occasions I can think of where you'd have a cake featuring a wedding gown. One is for a wedding, which, honestly, I don't really like as it's suppose to be for the couple and not just the bride........and that leaves, the BRIDAL SHOWER! What other occasion would you have this cake for?

Take both their heads and bang them together. Oh, puh-leeze!

Ditto, Ditto, Ditto to what everyone has said.

1. The cake is absolutely gorgeous! Creative design, beautiful workmanship; whimisical for a shower, and elegant at the same time.

2. The BRIDE-to-be loved it.

3. Those two are a pair of SOUR GRAPES. I would be conveniently busy when that shower rolls around.

Keep up the great work - your CC friends support you!

Thanks everyone for your outpouring of support. I think it hurt my friend/co-workers feelings but it just irritated me, mostly because I think it hurt her feelings. You know, you always know when you have done a good job. You look at the cake and are proud of what you have created. I had so many battles with this cake (80% humidity being the biggest of them) but I am very proud of the outcome so I really don't care what everyone else thinks. You know? I can't really explain it, but I know that each and every one of you have felt the same euphoria I felt Sat when I delivered it to the shower. It was my first stacked cake, first with fondant accents, first edible pearls.

What?!?! Those people must be on some sort of drug that affects their vision because that cake is gorgeous! It's so appropriate for a bridal shower. Are they nuts? Send them to Walmart. Let them eat crap-cake. I'm sure that will be appropriate for them!

Oh yes - she forgot to post the back of the cake with the big ol' bootie stickin' out of it!

Or maybe there was the groom peeking his head up under the dress?

Oh, wait, maybe the bridal dress dipped so low in the back you could see her thong?
