That's horrible writing? Oh my....I'd hate to see what you thought of mine then......

Seriously, your cake looks great, and I see nothing wrong with the writing!

Christi,

Just cuz you hated it, doesn't mean that they did! You should have charged full price. Your writing is better than most! icon_smile.gif

I think your handwriting looks great. I wish mine was as nice as your handwriting. I just finished a cake and I have to write Twinkle Twinkle Little Star on a little scrolly thing and I took a picture of it before I put the scrolly thing on the cake because I hate my writing. I was going to print something out and glue it onto fondant but ran out of time.

The cake looks great. You should have charged $70.

if you guys are using crustng buttercream you can do the pinprick method for the writing.......I've started doing it on some of my bigger sheetcakes (except when I get lazy lol) and it's much better than freehanding it.......I'm a slanter....I always wrte on a slant grrrr...

here are a couple cake I did with the pinprick method.

no problem......I HATE writing on cakes!!! The bigger the cake is the more I stink at it too! I actually hang on to them when I do them too...I have a drawer full of different sizes and fonts of Congratulations and happy birthdays...lol

edited to say that after a while they soak up grease from the icing and have to be thrown out but I plan on trying to buy some stenciling material to make permanent ones so that I don't have to print and prick the words I need everytime, and then they'd be washable too.

I wonder if one could use the pinprick method with the "create your stencils" plastic sheets. Do a couple of different sizes and styles. That way they are already made plus will last forever.

$25.00! WOW they DID get a deal!! icon_surprised.gif I think you're cake looks great. I LOVE the bordres.

I have always envied people that could write on cakes--not my strong suit. The pinprick method works good and I have just discovered another way. Of course it probably isn't something new! I print out the word(s) backwards on my printer then go over them with white piping gel (for white icing) then lightly press onto the cake, remove paper and then go over with icing. Works great!!

We are gonna have to have a talk. Before you go discounting a cake, please send me a picture of it. More than likely, I'm gonna tell you that it is BEAUTIFUL. And not BEAUTIFUL in a way that only a mother can understand.

That's a wonderful cake. No joking. No lying. No fibbing. No little white lies.

I'm hoping these are people who needed your charity, because that is what they got. icon_smile.gif

Well I really feel this cake wasn't up to a 70.00 cake level. If I were to have done a better job on the writing and placed the little things in a better way.. and didn't screw with the border I would of been happy charging 70.00 for this.

I do have a problem I am very critical of my work.. because I see every flaw.. and am scared the customer will see the flaw. THEN I question the price of the cake. icon_sad.gif

Uggghhhhh I hate this job sometimes.. only because right when I get to the point I am ok with my work I do something questionable and can't bear to charge it the price I set for the cake.

Yep I need to be dunked in a barrell of hot wax LOL

I honestly don't think that you should have lowered the price. I think it looks great! I am horrible at writing too, but ive ordered cakes from high end bakeries before that had much much worse writting than what you have! You did just fine, don't worry!

UMMM, yeah...I see absolutely nothing wrong with that cake. I would have paid more than $70 for it happily.
We are always our own worst critics but girl you got mad cake skills and yet doubt yourself. Next time you have an order do call me and I'll drive down to hold your hand as you boldly tell them how much the cake is worth. (and if you try giving them another steal like this one I'll squeeze your hand very very hard!) icon_lol.gif

No but I have gotten some REALLY great tips about writing on cakes...
PLUS... it makes your cake look very different if it all and all looks good and then ... da da dumm... ya write on it.. making it look lopsided icon_sad.gif

SOOO..... don't do a cake and ruin it if ya know ya can't write.. lol

This is one heck of a time consuming 20.00 cake LOL

Christi-What were you thinking, lol! That cake is great! They definately got it for a steal! Don't be surprised if you get a ton of orders from everyone they know......a cake like that and at that price, oh boy!

If you want to see crappy writing you should see the snowman cake I did for my dd's for Christmas. I tried to freehand cursive (usually use letter presses and don't even do well with those) and it was not a pretty result, let me tell you. I wrote all crooked and it was going down hill. It wrecked the entire cake! I was so upset I didn't even do a "real" border on it, I just squiggled some "curves", lol. I was too ashamed to even upload it to my photos. icon_redface.gif
