I am considering purchasing a Sugarveil and was wondering what you thought about them.
Are they worth the price?
How easy are they to use?
I would appriciate all info or opinions.
Have a great day!
Amy
Sugar Fail!!! that's how I describe it. I've used the product ONCE to make the Eiffel Tower and when it dries some parts dry thinner than others because you have to apply eve pressure on the flow. Unfortunately, I am not a robot to have that precision. So, it didn't work for me, and neither for a friend who advise me not to buy it, but I wanted to experiment with it and sadly it failed.
I guess I am little disappointed too, however, I dont' know if I have given it a complete chance. I thought I would use it more. (I got the dispenser and the icing). I think the dispenser is way over priced. I tried the icing a couple of times and I dont htink I got the consistency right. I was going for thin lines and it kept spreading (maybe it was too thin).
I did not get the dispenser, but I did get the product and have not had luck - I'd love to hear from someone who uses it correctly - cause I can't be!
I have purchased Sugarviel (icing), not the kit - and didn't get the desired results I was looking for.... just didn't get the consistency I was looking for, but could have very well, not mixed properly. I the dispenser is pricey. I saw them demo it at the ICES convention, and was so impressed. I like the concept and the product as demo'd... just didn't want to invest in the whole thing.
At the bakery I used to work at, we used sugarveil for wedding monograms.
We would always do them in fonts to match the invitations, so we would place the template under wax paper and just trace it with the sugarveil. We didn't have the dispencer, just mixed it like the package said, kinda like royal.
If covered really good it lasts a couple weeks, I think you rewhip it before using. That is really all we used it for, but it works well for that.
Good Luck
I have the dispenser and LOVE it. I have done all kind of things with it...I also use it alot to trace invites and monograms.
I do have a question though: I am doing a bunch of roses for a buttercream cake..(I usualy put it on fondant) How long will it last on the buttercream? Will it start to blend or melt or anything?
I purchased just the mix and was very exited â could not wait to try the new icing!
However it did not work for me â I made sure to mix very precisely, knowing that a lot of CC users had some problems. The icing was a little bit runny, but I was able to pipe the designs. It took about 30 â 40 minutes to dry and I took the decorations off the paper without problems.
BUT⦠When I tried a couple of hours later to lift the rest of sugarveil designs, they crumbled in pieces.
I am not sure if the humidity was high that day or I was at fault, but I would love to know if somebody had a success using sugarveil.
Has anybody tried using sugarveil with Damask stencil, instead of Royal icing?
I havent had any problems mixing it...make sure the water is BOILING and stir it to disolve first, then whip like crazy in the kitchen aid
I do find that you have to use it right away, as it gets too airy to use again..even if you whip it up again. So do make the small portions.
I have had some decorations sitting around for days..they seem to stay rubbery for about 3 days in our humid air. But they do warn you to use them right away. I would make the decorations that morning and then use them that afternoon..
I bought the icing and the dispenser and was tremendously disappointed. Sugarveil should be embarrassed to charge what they charge. It's an aquarium pump and an assortment of off the shelf stuff in a plastic box. I didn't think it worked all that well either.
I've had the SugarVeil system for 18 months and I personally love it. I do alot of my lettering and monograms using it. You don't have to use the dispenser to use the icing. For me, it just makes it easier on my hands. I do most all of my piping using the dispenser and really like the control it gives me, Plus, because the icing kind of melds into itself, you get a much smoother line especially where you have to start and stop. It does take some practice, though, and learning what consistency of the icing works best. I love it for piping dots -- no points -- and placing dragees -- so much easier than fingers or a tweezer. I have some wedding cakes on my website that I haven't had a chance to download here, if you want to check out the piping I did with it.
I'm so glad to see this post. I visited their site just yesterday and was considering ordering one. WHEW glad I saw this today before I threw away my cash.

I think Sugarveil is doing what everyone else does...they over charge for a product because it is "specialized" I feel the same way with the airbrushes that are put out for cake decorating and the copy machines and even the ink for printers. I have a wonderful professional airbrush that works better then my old crappy kopycake that I paid way too much for and would spend hours fighting it. I couldn't find anything equivilent to the sugarveil (Piping with a regular tip was hard) but I agree, they should have charged maybe 20 bucks for the whole thing...50 at the most. But I still love it! It works great!!! I have never had any problems with it and it is easy as get out to use!
