I have done a 8, 6, 4".... and drove it about 40 miles on my lap...Well...my husband was driving LOL..

I have also done a 10, 8, 6, 4. That one I just did at the place where the cake needed to be, so no transporting...

I'm sure yours would hold up just fine!

I am new to cake decorating and I have someone wanting a tilted cake. I have been looking for instructions to do this, and these are the best I have found. Not intimidating at all. Thank you.

Wow thanks for the info - this seems actually doable with my "skill level". I can't wait to try it - maybe for my sons birthday. Thanks again

Your favorite kind would work just fine!!! I always use MMF, but any fondant would work great!

Sarsi... My nephews birthday party is on the 19th of October, and Im making him a Captain Underpants cake. I was thinking it would be cool to do a Topsy Turvy cake. No one in my family will eat fondant. Would this be easy to do in BC?

Good question Melody25...........I'd like to know also Sarsi, will this work with a buttercream cake?

I have not tried a Topsy Turvy cake yet.....but I will. Thanks Sarsi.

I'm sorry I didn't get back to you sooner, Melody! I didn't get an email saying there was a new post!

No, I would NOT do this method of topsy turvey on a BC cake. That is the one draw back of this method... definitely do the Cut-Out method for BC!!

So are the dowels on the bottom the same angle as the cake? I always wonder how the top wouldn't slip off during transport with that method....

Yup, the dowels are the same angle. The piping gel and the dowel down the middle of the cake keeps it in place...

Wow, I'm so excited to try this out now. I'm pretty new to this whole using dowels in cake thing, but what kind of dowels do you use? How thick do they need to be?

This is sooo much better than wasting cake by having to carve out most of one whole layer! I have two of these to make and needed another option. Thanks so much for sharing!!
