I Have A Big Problem With Going "out Of The Box" W
Decorating By wgoat5 Updated 17 Jun 2008 , 2:34pm by CeeTee
I make different flavored cake don't get me wrong... carrot, chocolate, white, banana.. stuff like that.. but I really have a problem when people go talking about guava flavored cake with tea flavored bc
I haven't ever had these (what I would call weird) flavors.. you know.. all the "different" off the beaten path flavors... but I am absolutely SCARED to try them.
Does the tea flavor REALLY taste like tea or does it mimic something else once put in bc or cake?? Or does very many people really want chocolate cake with kiwi curd? LOL
I know I am weird.. did everybody start out liking these weird flavors?? Was it really something you started out with or just taste them from somewhere...
I have a weird gag response.. especially to new foods...
What is the most different recipe that is requested for you to make?
Hope I am not offending anybody ... I just wanna know OR does anyone else have this weird problem like I do??? LOL
I've never done guava with tea bc, but sometimes those weird flavors taste amazing!! You never know until you try it!!
You don't want to try a vanilla and lavender cake with green tea buttercream??
Guava is such a yummy fruit.. and chai tea tastes like cinnamon, vanilla, and cloves.. green tea gives it a little bit of an earthy flavor, but it's good and sweet because well.. afterall it's cake and buttercream.
Don't be scared.. I mean you eat oreo filling.. you are a little adventerous in my book..
LMAO Jeanne .. shortening and sugar is a little different then say.... passion fruit and white chocolate pear thai spiced pumkin cake LOL <--- couldn't even think of anything funny dagnabbit LOL
The other Oreo Weirdo (Jkalman, we've been labeled lol) checking in here. I am a foodie and love trying different things but haven't gotten too adventurous with the baking yet.
I just got my Vegan Cupcakes Take Over the World book, not a vegan but heard so many good things about it. The 3 I've tried so far (chocolate, vanilla and coconut lime) have been delicious. They do have a green tea and a vanilla chai in there, also a pistachio rosewater....maybe one day. But not til I get through some of the others (banana split, margarita, PB)
I bought some chocolate cookies yesterday for some cookies and "cream" cupcakes/BC. Cookies...no filling.
LOL Ohhh did I call you all weird?
I don't think you all are weird.. just a little off
It's okay.. I know I am wierd.. I embrace it.
Ironbaker.. at least you weren't called a health nut..
It's OK, I own it, happily!
Now the flavor combos that scare me are the ones that have spices in them and I'm not talking about cinnamon and cloves. But I've seen that mostly with chocolates.
eta: lol@ JK saying just about the same thing. You and your tofu cookies.
Now see I wouldn't be afraid to try chili powder with chocolate.... Or then maybe I would LOL who knows...
Hmm see when I was growing up (you all are probably youngins ) they put pot in brownies LOL

When did they stop?
I'm a traditionalist so no "weird" cake flavorings here, please! If you want guava monkey butt cake with ear wax coconut filling, please call someone else!
(And I hate oreos, too!)
LMAO Ironbaker.. I was thinking the same thing.. they stopped putting pot in brownies?? Now there's a spice I don't mind in just about anything..
Well I'm in the minority here, but I love it when clients ask for strange flavorings and combinations! I get sick of the normal stuff, yellow, vanilla, chocolate, etc. Also, you get to call those crazy ones "gourmet" and make more money!
Oh I don't hate them.. don't get me wrong.. I'd make um if I could handle their names and try them.... (weird gag thing remember? LOL)
JK!
RRGibson - now what do you consider gourmet...or what's the most "gourmet" (aka weird) you've done? I also get tired of yellow and white and will do the coconuts (tried a coconut lime yesterday), pineapple, etc. But haven't ventured into the spices and flowers. lol
Welcome to the very short-listed club, Indy!
i made a carrot cake with thai iced tea vanilla frosting... and it rocked.
i also make green tea with cream cheese frosting...
i am so always up for the wierd flavors... its what makes cake tastings so exciting....
but do they taste like tea? I'm not a tea fan... and I would have trouble tasting it to see if it rocked or not lol
well the thai iced tas tastes like cinnamon nutmeg and clove, kinda like liquified pumpkin pie.
the green tea tastes earthy and nutty...
i use a powder that i get from a friend of mine that is a sushi chef, and he uses them at his restaurant.

Do you know the names/brands of the powders you use?
You can get matcha powder (green tea) on-line.. this is a great brand..
http://www.domatcha.com/products/
If you have a grocery store with a natural food section.. you can find chai tea powder there. A lot of grocery stores have it in the regular tea/coffee isle too.
i dont know the brand he uses.. i know i just love the way it tastes in tea form, and it tastes great in cake
I have several minutely different flavors on my "menu" and I can't get anybody to order anything but white, yellow, chocolate and strawberry. UGH!!!!
Hey Lue you can make me something unusual.. If ya deliver

I'm making a cake this weekend for my best friends sons baptism. She doesn't know it but one tier is going to be something unusual. I"m thinking pistachio.
Has anybody ever tried this.
