My daughter is taking a 2 hour "kids" cake decorating class tonight. Their supply list includes "5 piece tip and nail set". I'm having trouble figuring out what is in this. I can't find it in the wilton store online. Any ideas? I know she needs the flower nail (I have several) but which tips does this include? I put in the 102, 103 and 104. Figuring these are the "basic" flower nail tips. Does this sound right? Class is in 3 hours (nothing like waiting till the last minute to actually look at the class supply list! LOL. Oh, and afterthought. Maybe they want her to have the flower scissor thing too? I have that somewhere......

Perhaps it is referring to Wilton Item # 418-P-47300. It has four tips which include a star, round, leaf and petal tips and a flower nail ...a total of five pieces!

Hmm. Well, i put in 3 different leaf tips. And all the round ones. Do you think they would want them to have the drop flower one too? I think that's a totally different tip for lefties.... Hopefully they'll have that one at the store when we get there if they need it. That's why I have her in the class. I have so much trouble teaching her stuff b/c she is left handed. And I am not.

How old is your daughter? I have an 8 year old who wants to learn and I am going to sign her up for the 'Mom and Me' class that my instructor teaches.

The last time that I was at Michael's and A.C. Moore they both had the leftie set.

Good luck to your daughter and I hope that she enjoys the class.

She is 12 y/o. My almost 9 y/o is dying to take the class too (she is also a leftie-how did this happen! LOL) but she is to, well, uhm, impulsive? Very active and I wouldn't wish that on any instructor right now, so I told her she had to wait until she was 11. They have a lot of classes at the Tall Mouse here in town, but not for kids. This one is at JoAnn's. They have a "super store" in Foothill Ranch. I had my 12 y/o and my niece take some basic sewing classes for kids out there this summer too. My 9 y/o will be doing that w/our scout troop (I'm the leader) in the fall and I need my 12 y/o to babysit the 4 y/o and soon to be 3 y/o for those two days, so I'm doing all these other classes to make up for her missing the scout stuff (although she is one level above her sister, so it's not really geared to her level anyway).

I feel your pain...my oldest son is left handed. When he was in Kindergarten it was a pain because he would start off using one hand and then in the middle of doing his homework would switch hands and his papers were a mess, some going one way and some going another lol

Got tired one night and told him he would have to choose which hand he wanted to use and stick with it...of course, he chose the left. He is the only left-handed in the house.

My older two are both left handed. My son seems to be favoring his right. My youngest uses both, so we don't know yet. The funny thing is, the older two both cut with their right hands for scissors. My oldest told me that was because the scissors don't work right in her left hand (they never have the left handed scissors even though I send that kind with them to school!). So I guess if you HAVE to use the right hand, they could do it. With practice. Esp since they are both still young.

I really should have read the instructions/supply list earlier. It says to bring an unfrosted 8 inch unfilled cake. I had her fill it and frost it before I read the list. I'm baking another one now, but it might not be cool enough in two hours. Think they'll care if it's already frosted???? What a bad student's parent I am....

Let it cool down first and stick it in the freezer for about fifteen minutes before you leave.

I figured I might need to do something like that. I'ts almost 4pm now. we don't need to leave here till 5:15 and I just set it in front of the kitchen window (which is driving my poor dog nuts) and there is a nice cool breeze running through, so , hopefully, it'll cool down pretty well before then. It's about a 30 min drive (with no traffic) but since it'll be rush hour, I figure I should give myself more time to get there.
