Does Fondant break down if you insert it into cake?
I made some goal posts and need to stick them in the cake, but I have never seen a cake with fondant inserted into the cake, only sitting on top.
I have another post out there on this topic, and a reply was made that gumpaste broke down (from the cake, not the icing) and was wondering if fondant would do that too?
I am sorry to be such a pest!! I just don't know what to do.
Thank you, anyone, who is willing to advise!!
Leslie
It would probably eventually soften from the cake moisture but if you wait until just before serving the cake you will be fine for a while. You can try attaching lolipop sticks to the fondant using chocolate or royal icing or if you want to use an edible product - use candy sticks (we used to call them candy cigarrettes)
Good luck!
Thank you Cake Maker!
I am delivering the cake at 9 am and it probably won't be served until 11:30 or 12:00. Will it be ok? I thought about buying the plastic tubelike dowels and sticking them down in that and filling it up with icing....What do you think about that idea?
I think if I tried to attach anything, I might mess them up. I should have done that while they were still pliable.
I did make some gumpaste ones a few minutes ago and LOVE it more than fondant!! I found it was easier to shape for what I am doing. My fondant is always too dry.
Thank you soooo much for your quick response!!
Do you think 5 hours would be too long for the posts to stick in the cake? I am delivering it to her house and she will be carrying it to the party site. I hate to ask her to insert the posts....
Thanks again!!
Leslie
Personally I would do one of 2 things-but it is just my opinion-I would either put lollipop sticks in the ends and insert those into the cake just so the posts look like they are sitting on the cake OR I would use the round dowel tubes and decorate those that way you can insert them into the cake a bit deeper...either is an option that won't breakdown in that time frame. Good luck!
Nanni,
Thank you!!! I think I am going to use the dowel tubes. You helped confirm my thoughts about that. The only reason I was stressing so much is because the little boy is wanting goal posts on his football cake and if he is dreaming of that, I sure didn't want to let him down.
Thank you both again!!!
Leslie
You are very welcome-funny how we have an idea but need that little boost..glad to help! I am sure he will enjoy his cake!
