OK. I wanted to let you all in on a process that we moderators are doing.
We are in the process of cleaning up the gallery pictures. We are deleting duplicate pictures. What we have been told as moderators is that only one picture per cake. If you wish to show the sides or different angles of the cake you are to make a "collage" of it, and post it as one. You can see what we mean by looking into the gallery, there are some already being uploaded.

Please do not reload a cake picture that has "disappeared" this creates problems for what we are trying to do. KathysCC, and all the other moderators, including myself are only doing what we've been asked to do. I've gotten PM's along with others about the cakes disappearing, and then they are reloading the pics. Please don't.

Thank you.

*******IN ADDITION IF YOU HAVE ANY DUPLICATES OR ADDITIONAL VIEWS OF CAKES AND IF YOU CAN EDIT OR DELETE THEM IT MAY HELP US FOR YOU TO DO THEM.... THANKS AGAIN ALSO PLEASE KNOW AND UNDERSTAND SAVED FAVORITES WILL BE EFFECTED SO IF YOU CAN MAYBE TRY AND SAVE IT ELSEWHERE

This is just a suggestion and in no way ment to be ignorant or mean...

The next time something like this comes up, maybe a general message could be put up for everyone to delete duplicate photos and if there are different sides to make a collage... Because some people may not like the picture the moderator deleated... also it might be nice to read the comments one last time.....

I did this about a month ago, when a post came out about duplicate photos... but was sad to lose the comments, as it is nice to get praise on our creations... as I'm sure everyone like praise and suggestions.

Have a great day and continue doing a wonderful job... I love this site and only want to see it get better!

Well...I think Nikki does have a point ..maybe the moderators can PM the people and ask wich photo before they delete the wrong photo..

I can totally understand your concerns. If someone reads this and wants to do just that great,it would help us out, but to PM all the members would take way too long. as it was I alone went through only 50+ pages of pictures and it came about 40 some cakes or so... not to count what pics other mods had to do. We are following our directions given to us, and I assure you I took a while deciding which pic is best, but most were exact pics I mean exact. As usual ladies, thank you so much for your suggestion and I will add your suggestions to the post above so it will bring attention to the pics.

Good luck, moderators! You have been tasked with a HUGE assignment. I only have one question - what happens if the pictures you are deleting are saved in someone's favorites? For example, I uploaded a picture of my cake and have subsequently realized that was the wrong picture. I uploaded the finished cake picture, but someone has already put the first picture into their favorites and that is the only reason why I did not erase the first picture. So, back to the question - what happens to "favorites" if they are erased?

Good question....

what I know we are doing the one with the less amount of favorites is the one that gets deleted, and if it's one that was saved yeah it will be gone. This has come up too... with ones I saved.

What it comes down to is we can't make everyone happy and we all know that, so we turn to Jackie and Heath, and do what makes them happy.
I'm sorry once again for any confusion or frustrations this causes, please except our apologies, but again we are doing what we were tasked to do. icon_wink.gif

So, maybe a general announcement is in order, stating that the favorites will be impacted by this action, so everybody has a chance to save the pictures on their hard drive, where they can stay without impacting CC. The process is very easy and everyone should be able to do it.

Designate a folder on your computer for the pictures (maybe My pictures) - open favorites list - open picture - right click on the picture - go to Save as option on the menu - choose your designated folder from a drop-down menu - click Save and its done.

Just my 2 cents. icon_biggrin.gif

In response to warning everyone about this. The thing is that everytime you upload a picture the rules are there in big bold letters. No Duplicate Photos Allowed. There have been several threads about this very thing.

I realize that not everyone reads the rules or the threads but the rules are fairly simple and though it may cause some difficulty and some of your favorites may disappear, I assure you that a picture of the cake you saved is still here on CC. Only duplicate photos are being removed.

I agree with flayvurdfun that it is not possible to PM every member whose duplicate photos are removed. There are just way too many of them.

I think this rule makes CC a more enjoyable place for everyone, makes the galleries easier to browse and gives everyone's cake a better chance of being seen.

If a picture that was in your favorites is erased, I believe it will just disappear or there may be a blank box where that picture was. I'm sure someone will run across one soon and let us know.

Can they change the rule about deleting pics that have a certain number of 'favorites'. We could all help by deleting our duplicates if we were allowed to remove any pic regardless of the number of times it was saved as a 'favorite'.

I tried to do this with duplicate views of a few of my cakes. They only had a couple of favorites, but they still couldn't be deleted by me.

So, can that rule be temporarily lifted while this job is being done?

Is it possible for Heath or Jackie to post something on the home page as an alert? It would make it easier on you, mods, because people wouldn't be reloading their pictures.

In addition, it would be nice to have a separate clause that you must press an additional button on stating you can only upload one picture of this cake. For example, you press the button to load, and then a pop-up comes up asking if this is the only picture of the cake and then you can select yes (to finish uploading) or no (which cancels). This might prevent future issues with this.

Just another note. I thought it might help for me to repost the duplicate photo rule here. The rule means that only one photo is allowed. A second photo would only be allowed if it shows something completely NOT shown in the first photograph. We still recommend making a collage if you want to show more detail or more than one view.

Duplicate photos are not allowed.
You may upload 1 photo of a cake and choose the most appropriate photo gallery for that 1 photo. On occasion its OK to upload a different angle of your cake, but we prefer you only do that if it the other photo shows entirely different details of the cake, that are not visible at all in the other photo. Please try and limit any "different" angle photos to just 1, that way there are not more than 2 photos in the gallery of the 1 cake.

that seems like a ton of work for you moderators. why don't you post a note when people sign on explaining this and ask them to go through their photos and delete duplicates themselves. i'll do mine today.

I don't know about that, will have to ask but if you PM me the link for the photo that you would like removed, I can do it for you.

That would be nice.

If you contact them, they will remove it for you - I had that done when I made a duplicate cake that I liked better then my original. It only had 3 saved favs but wouldn't let me delete it so I followed the contact link and they removed it within a couple of days. I did have to send two requests, but it was in the middle of switching to the new server so I'm sure it would get done faster now.

Please remove this one
http://www.cakecentral.com/cake-photo_1042313.html

I have a better pic of it uploaded with the serving cake, but I couldn't remove this one because it has 16 favs.

Is there a way in the future to add the names of the CCers who save your pic? That way we could contact them if we remove the photo.

For those of you who may not know KathysCC is a moderator for gallery pictures. She is taking up the majority of this job. I am sure she will love to help as much as she can, but if she can't I'm sure somehow between all of us we can answer it. Thank you.

I tried doing that before, I was successful with some and others shows that it got deleted and was still showing up in my gallery. Now, I am getting an Access Denied Error. Anyone know why?

Thank you for doing this! I realized something, if you see a duplicate photo, you can report it as well.

This will save a lot of space on the website and make it a TON easier to see all kinds of cakes.

I had no idea this thread was here or what it was about. The only reason I checked it out was because the OP was flayvurdfun.

I have read about this in the lounge area but I think if you want more people to be aware of this perhaps a more detailed title is needed ie. Duplicate photos to be deleted from gallery or something along those lines.

Just my 2cents!!

Can someone make a tutorial on how to make a collage? One of my duplicates was deleted where i showed a feature, which people in another forum loved and made the cake pop out for the recipient. got a lot of questions about that one feature. If I knew how to make a collage, I would have done that, but... I am pretty much computer illiterate, never had one in school. Would appreciate any help, as I am sure quite a few other people would as well. I do not want to clog up CC, but I'm getting to a point slowly, thx to CC, where I actually am making nice cakes and might be able to help others as well.

I am all for only one pic of each cake, pick ONE and use it. Lately every time I go to upload my picture and eagerly go to look for it on the main page it is there for a VERY short time only to be replaced by three different views of the same cake. I know how much everyone enjoys compliments and constructive critisism but I don't stand a equal chance against three of the same pic. I'm sure some will consider this whining but I would just like an equal chance.
