Ok, probably a dumb question..........I cannot figure out how to get the soccer ball pattern on the sports ball pan cake. icon_smile.gif I have done a baseball, but it was pretty easy to free-hand. I know I cannot free hand this. How do you get a 3-d pattern for this type of thing??? icon_rolleyes.gif

The pan comes with the pattern in the directions. I scanned it into my computer, printed it out on card stock and "laminated" it with clear contact paper. I then use it as a template to cut out my fondant. If you're not using fondant.....well I don't know what to tell you. I'll attach my file if you need a copy. I also attached a picture to show how it turned out.

I've done several of these. You do need a template like the one above. There are two types of blocks on soccer balls.

If you are using buttercream, here is how I did it. I made the templates exactly as alanahodgson mentioned above. I crumbcoated the cake and using a toothpick, traced the pattern into the crumbcoat of buttercream. I then used a star tip to fill in.

Hope this helps. icon_smile.gif

I also did this cake in buttercream. . .I used the same template as above that came with the sports ball pan. I crumb coated, then transfered the pattern using parchment paper and piping gel colored black. I filled in with the star tip. I was about to attach a link but I just remebered that I never uploaded it. icon_rolleyes.gif I just did so if you'd like to see it it should be in my photo gallery. HTH

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is exactly what I was needing! For some reason I thought I needed to have the entire ball drawn out to transfer, not the individual pieces! icon_smile.gif Duh!

Thank You!!! I forgot to mention that after I finished the transfer, I outlined it in gray. Just so it would stand out from the black. Good luck!
