Hi all, I have a can of meringue powder someone gave me about 7 years ago, not sure how long they had it before they gave it to me either. It hasn't been opened yet, its got one of those metal pull tabs on it like a can of vienna sausages has got. I'm wondering do you think its still ok to use since it hasn't been opened? I looked for a date on the can and I don't see one.
TIA

Hmmm I'm not sure about something that would be 7 years old .. maybe someone else that has had some for awhile can give some input on this one icon_smile.gif

I wouldn't use it if I were you. Meringue Powder is just eggs right so I doubt it is still good. Chunk it Jess. Yuck! icon_smile.gif

Well, I would say that a year would be a good limit to consider, just to be on the safe side. Seven years is too long, in my opinion.

The standard applies here! "If in doubt, throw it out!"

I just asked the same question a few weeks ago on the Wilton forums and I was told by someone at Wilton that Meringue powder DOES expire. I had a can for 3 years and after talking to them, I pitched it because I didn't want to risk it messing up my icing even though it looked to be fine.

I just pitched it in the trash, I didn't even know it was made out of egg whites. How gross that would have been if I'd used it! Sure am glad I asked. Thanks everybody. icon_biggrin.gif

AI know if you call Wilton they will ask for the codes on whatever package you want to inquire about, and take it from there if item is good or not. I've done this for my Wilton chocolates
