Brought over from another thread, the idea was Janette's. If you rent space in someone else's kitchen, how much do you pay? Also if you would like to give us your general location, that would probably be helpful!

I live near Austin, and I rent space in a kitchen for $10/hr. As far as I'm concerned, this is a bargain. The normal rate for the kitchen is $15/hr but the owner took pity on me because I don't have very much volume. She mentioned to me that several of her renters purchase "unlimited" time for a flat fee of something like $400-$500/month. The kitchen supplies storage racks and refrigerators.

There is a community kitchen in downtown Austin that rents for about $20/hr, IIRC, but that's way out of my price range.

I just wanted to ask you what type of establishment are you renting from? Im not ready to start a business but when I am I would like to know who I should talk to. Do you think Fort Worth/Dallas Tx has a community kitchen or do you know who I would call for that??

The place downtown is Gina's Kitchen:

There was a big article about it in the paper a year or so ago. It is for-profit.

I rent from two sisters who converted their guest home into a licensed kitchen for their organic desserts business. It's not fancy, but it's legal. I found them on craigslist. You might inquire about any kitchens for rent that way.

By the way, I just found ANOTHER commercial kitchen for rent in Austin. I've never heard of it before:

$20/hr during the day, $10/hr at night.
