Hello All, icon_smile.gif

I've been baking for a few years now mostly for friends, family & co-workers & I beleive I have been sheating myself when it comes to what I've been charging for large party sized sheet cakes. I have a potential order for a full sheet Bratz themed cake and the customer wants chocolate cake with chocolate mousse filling for her daugthers 9th birthday party. Well here's my delimma, she says she has always bought cakes for her daugther from Goldilocks Bakery & she has never bought anywhere else. I priced the cake she wants from Goldilocks & they are asking $178.99 & that's with bringing your own decorations & they just place them on the cake & decorate around that? I was shocked when they told me that but I figured OH Well to each his own, but I've had their cakes & would never pay that much since I know they are not really custom made in my opinion. So I got prices from 6 other bakeries & based on the average for them all that brings a full sheet to about $112 What do you suggest I do? Do I stick to the average or go a litle closer to the Goldilocks price? Anything I bake is totally from scratch nothing out of a box & I put alot of work into what I sell & I just want to make sure I am paid for quality of my work. Help out there anyone icon_confused.gif . Thanks.

Well, unfortunately, I am in the same boat in regards to pricing cakes. I just did some research on how to figure and charge for cakes and of course everyone does it differently. Anyway, I have done a couple full sheet cakes and my figuring led me to $112 on mine....which is what you came up with. It also depends what kind of elements you have on the cake. Mine had some tricky artwork I was working with, but no 3D type elements, and no fondant. I don't know if that helps or not, but I wish you all the luck. Plus, I am still not sure I priced mine right...lol icon_biggrin.gif
