Have Any Of You Wrapped Cupcake Bouquets?

I am starting to think about gifts for the teachers as a Thank You at the end of the term. Last year I did cookie bouquets but would rather not do cookies this year as I found them too time consuming and I also had a problem with the humidity was getting to the cookies.

Sooo, this year I was thinking about cupcake bouquets, still impressive looking but for quite a lot less effort. The only thing I am worried about is not being able to wrap them up. I just want to make sure the cupcakes are presented in a nice tidy and hygienic way. On the last day at school the teachers get a lot of gifts and I just want to make sure they can get their cupcakes home without having icing smeared all over their cars.

Is there a way of wrapping cupcake bouquets without smushing the icing. I normally use IMBC but is it better to use a crusting buttercream for this?

What you can do is take a good size cake box (8" or 10") not to much bigger than your cupcake bouquets pot. Take the top of the box off, and cut a hole the size of the pot just under the rim. Stuff the box with either brown wrapping paper or newspaper (you need something sturdy) in the bottom of the box, leave room for the pot to be placed in the the center! Put the lid back on, tape the sides down, and place the pot in the center in the hole. there you have a carrier! At this point you can get cellophane (clear or colored, I perfer clear) and cover the top of the bouquet for transport. I hope this is clear enough for you to understand, lol. I get longwinded sometimes, lol

Thank you so much for your tip msthang1224. Can you please just clarify one thing for me, is the hole cut in the lid of the cake box? And if so, where do you put the cellophane. Sorry, I am not normally this dense but today I have problems with even the simplest of things. Do you perhaps have a photo of your contraption?

Yes, you cut a hole(not to big) in the middle of the lid and after you place the lid back onto the box (tape sides down to hold in place), you place the bouquet into the hole (it should fit snug). Then take a large sheet of cellophane and cover the top of the bouquet (be sure to tape the sides down) for transport.
Sorry, I don't have a pic for you but it works icon_smile.gif

I have a question. How do you keep the cellophane from ruining (squishing) the icing on the cupcakes? I too am in the same situation, trying to figure out how to deliver in a sanitary manner.

I make sure that there is enough of the cellophane to make a big poof like balloon over the entire bouquet (almost as if there is air in it) or you could also use toothpicks in the middle of the cupcakes to stop cellophane from touching icing. BUT, be sure to inform the receipent of the toothpicks icon_smile.gif

another idea i gleaned from reading about cupcake bouquets is you can use skewers wrapped in ribbon and leave some curly ribbons loose at the tip. you can stick them between the cupcakes and this will prevent the cellophan from touching your "flowers" and serve as a filler too!

I wrap them in cellophane with skewers topped with tiny royal icing flowers to support the wrap. Most of the time I use a white daisy type flower, but any tiny dainty flower will work and actually adds to the bouquet!

The ribbon idea is a great one too.. will have to try that out.

icon_redface.gif Sorry, I seem to be having a duh moment. Let me see if I have this right. So after your bouquet is down in the box, you probably have 4"-6" left sticking out the top. Then you use a big sheet of cellophane to go over top of it and tape it down to the sides of the box. And so as long as you use enough cellophane and perhaps skewers or toothpicks the flowers won't get messed up. Sort of like wrapping a basket.

I wonder what it would look like if you wrapped the cellophane around the box and tied it with a pretty ribbon. I know it would probably use more cellophane this way though. I wonder too if that may be too heavy to stay up off the flowers. Just a thought. I guess I better go buy some cellphane and boxes and try it out. Sometimes I just can't figure things out until I see it.

thanks, Michele

np, I am using it right now as I have to deliver two cupcake bouquets on my lunch hour. I had to fold the lid down at the bottom to accomodate the height of my pot which I think made it sturdier. I works just super!!!

Hi everyone! I just can't picture what the box looks like and the link is no longer working. Does anyone else have a picture of how the box will look. I also want to send one to my childs teacher.
