I have a good friend that is a caerer and a lady called her for a quote on a birthday party for an 85th birthday. My friend qouted her 8.00 a head. The lady then asked about a cake so she gave her my number. She called less than a week before the party saying that she wanted flowers on the cake. It didn't matter what kind as long as it had some dasies on it. We later find out that she is going with the country store down the road that will cater the party for 1.89 a head????!!!!!!!!! Well. I meet her to deliver the cake today. When I show her the cake she talks about how beautiful it is and all. I as her where she is going to put the cake????...... she told me the front seat of the van. I expressed my concerns for such an unstable position for this cake that will serve 65. As I am sitting in my car I notice her put the cake in the front seat and stick her hand in the cake at the same time. Later I recieved an email and she said that she was not happy with the cake at all and it was not what she wanted and that the flower were falling off and the cake was cracking. I eamiled back that she should have said something when I delivered the cake so that I could make any changes that she wanted. I also reminded her that I did express concerns of the travel method. I just feel that she wanted a free cake to go along with her 1.89 a head meal. I'm sorry I just had to vent. All she had to do is say something and I could have changed the cake.

YEah, normally I give people the benefit of the doubt, but when they're all - oh, we like it and then five minutes later say they hate - I don't buy it.

I'd just say, "It's unforunate you didn't like the cake. Without specific direction from you, I created something that would worked well. I only hope that next time we can work together on a design that we are both happy with."

Some people just want something for free sometimes! And sometimes, they dont' think about the expense of things until after the fact. Then they are like, "Holy Snot! I just $400 for a cake!" Take a deep breath and remember her name...don't do another cake for her. Let her go some where else and get a crappy cake for about $50 and she'll be happy. You won't be stressed! Just picture throwing a big hand full of frosting at her and maybe you'll feel better! Smile, there's always another idiot waiting for you tomorrow! Happy Baking!

If it had been someone that I truely felt like they were not happy with the cake I would have been heart broken about it but in this cake I'm just not. Something is telling me that it is a case wanting something for free or she messed it up and is trying to cover it now.

You shouldn't feel bad. She should have been more specific about what she wanted. You can't be held responsible for what happens to the cake when it is not in your possession especially when she would not take your suggestion on the transportation of the cake. You must always remember that some people will never be pleased no matter what.

P.S. Betcha she didn't have a problem eating the cake!!

Thanks guys. I later found out that this woman is a real drama queen. Promises to comit suicide every week and stuff like that. If I had know about this before I would have run as fast as I could. They got the food from a small, old, Piggly Wiggly type store with a food line in it. I figured they are taking what is left from the food line the day before. (she said that she wants everything to look professional)

It just kills me that she would rather complain and all about the cake instead of just asking if I change it a little. I could not see it from my view but I wonder how bad she stuck her hand in it? She was licking her hand and patting that cake. I will post the cake when I get back.

She just wanted something for free - could be she really messed it up with her hand print and felt embarassed when she delivered the cake. And I'm sure she proable blamed you for the frosting mishap. SOME PEOPLE.

I sure hope you didn't refund her anything especially since she said it was so beautiful etc. when she picked up the cake.

If she didn't like the cake and it was not what she wanted then she didn't have to take it, much less stick it in the front seat and put her licked over hand in it! She took the cake and ate the cake therefore she consumed the product so she must pay for the product. It would be different if it was really bad when she picked it up, but not after she took responsibility. Did you have her sign anything for the cake upon pick-up? Did you manage to get pics of her with her hand in the cake? That would have been great!

Also, $1.89/person? What did they get? You can't get a fast food meal for that?

She did not get a refund. If she had something about it them maybe. I'm not in the free business. I believe they had chicken fingers, green beans, and pototoes

Very nice, she needs a therapist. Not that it's bad to have one but it wouldn't hurt her to see one.

I say make a contract were they Know that when they take cakes home themselves is out of your hands. Whatever issued they encounter with the cake after traveling is their own issue and they have to deal with it!...
