I am on the fence about my business name and It's time to either renew or change it.
Currently it is - Sweet Emotions Bakery
I think it's just too long, and kinda boring. Plus a organic bakery in town just added a wedding cake shop names Sweet Escape and I don't want there to be any confusion between the two.

So what I am thinking is "Piece"
I like it cause it feels younger not to traditional which matches me better cause I'm only 21 and nothing about me is traditional.
Here are some logos I've been messing around with..

I want something shorter, cause saying Sweet Emotions Bakery is a mouthful! Any suggestions?

Ok, not to poo-poo on your parade, but when I hear "Piece" I immediately think "of sh*t". Because the single word 'piece' is a common short version of that three-word unflattering description. I'm sorry, I'm not trying to be negative, just want to bring to light a possible downside. I like the idea of a trendy name like that... maybe just not that exact one. Obviously you're the only one that can decide if the benefits of the name outweigh potential 'issues'. icon_wink.gif And if you really like it, go for it!

Oh, what about All Smiles Bakery, that's kinda catchy and cute! Makes you want to smile, huh? hehe

You could specialize in naughty cakes with the name "Piece". icon_biggrin.gif

There is a pizza place near us called "Peace a Pizza" that has a funky vibe, unusual flavors, and neat atmosphere. They have a volkswagon Beetle with their logo that they drive around in.

Quick question. Will you lose customers when they come looking for you and find a different name for your shop? Will those customers go to this new competitor because, gosh, the name sounds familiar but the "other store" (YOU) have a different name now?

I'd hate to see you lose customers because of a name change.

Just my 2-cents.

I don't think of a bakery and yummy cakes and things like that when I hear "piece". I think keeping your name would be best.

"Piece" reminds me of the bakery where I used to live in Natick, MA. This guy owned it, the name of the shop was "Pieces". They did our wedding cake over 11 years ago! Loved the cake and the name! icon_biggrin.gif Can you use Pieces if you're in a completely different state? I have no idea...

I'm curious if this other bakery has their name registered. I know here, if the names are at all similar the "new" person has to have written permission from the other business to use a similar name.

Thanks for all your suggestions!
I have a Piece of Cake bakery only 2 hours away so I can't go that route. I will try my rough draft of my logo again:
Image
I don't think a name change will effect me at all, I don't have a shop yet but hope to get one going soon. Right now I am only making cakes in the summer cause I'm a full time student at UO and I make cakes to pay my rent icon_smile.gif
My sister is the one who came up with the name she is real big on going green and I want to incorporate that into my feel of things. That is kind of where piece came from because it's more then a piece of cake, it's a peace of mind. Anyway, thanks for the suggestions I hope my logo worked this time and if it does remember it's only a start..

The same connotation popped into my head when I first saw the name also. icon_redface.gif The single name "piece" may confuse your target market and turn away potential clients. You're changing your name to prevent losing clients and a single name such as "piece" could result in the same outcome. People need to immediately know that you are a cake business when they hear or see your name. It's easy to figure out with the nice logo design, but in other instances it could be confusing.

Now that I see the logo, I like the Piece better. W/o it, Piece could be a lot of things...as we've already touched on! icon_wink.gif As far as colors go, I'm agreeing w/ the Lime green suggestion. With maybe some chocolate brown and a splash of teal. icon_smile.gif

Yup, now that I see your logo, I really like the name with it! And I like the colors too. On my monitor, it's coming up as a kind of French vanilla background and a russett red name. Imo, it's fresh and unique, with kind of an outside of the box thinking. Good luck!
