Help! Ideas For 80 Year Old Man

Hi, I am hoping that someone can help with some ideas for this cake. My creativity is just running dry on this one...
My customer has requested a 12" square cake for her 80 year old dad who is in a nursing home. The only advice she has given me is to make it blue, and maybe white pipe work.
I asked her what sort of interests he had before going into the home such as gardening or fishing, but nope, she had no suggestions. I really want to do a nice cake for this man.
Can anyone offer some ideas or has anyone done something similar?
Thanks
Would you consider a brown derby hat, they were very popular. Blue and brown is very popular right now! Just a thought.
maybe too simple but what about just some stripes along the sides in a coordinating color with happy birthday on the top? go for something simple yet sophisticated and i don't think you could go wrong.

I find cakes for men to be difficult if they don't have some type of hobby to replicate. Look at my recent photo "Jason". This was for a mid 30 man. Or "Liam". Keep it simple like mom42ws said.
I think I would put an automobile from the 40's. I know, as an older person myself, older people tend to still like things which were popular during their teen years and cars were a really big thing to everyone then. Maybe you could put a Woodie on.
Thanks everyone, you are all really helpful. Yes I agree, I think I should keep it simple. Love the hat and car ideas too!
PS nice photo's tippyad!
