Don't do this.. I have ruined 1 piece of my work due to trying to paint the glaze over the lettering on a piece. No matter if it is dry.. it will run!!!

I would imagine that trying to paint over the glaze won't work either

So how do you do it..

OH yes.. DONT use good brushes.. I looked down at one point and my BRAND NEW 15.00 brush was RUINED!!!!

Just a tip... pour your glaze in a bottle with a brush in the lid... like one of these... (scroll down)

could you spray it on? Did you want it to be shiny? I have never played with confectioner's glaze so I have no idea, but I was thinking about something like one of those pump olive oil sprayers or something so you could lightly spray it on?? Just a thought anyway.

There's a confectioners glaze remover you can purchase to clean your brushes with. That's what I use.

Well I have the confectioners glaze cleaner and I have read somewhere to mix the two.. .or maybe I didn't * shrug* I don't know..

Yes I want it to be shiny.. I made cupstacking "cup" they are plastic and shiny..

Does it dry nice.. as in it's not still tacky right? You could always glaze it and then paint the lettering on it if it dries nice.

That was the first thing I thought of: spraying instead of brushing. I did buy conf. glaze, but haven't had the opportunity to use it yet. Try mixing the two (glaze and remover/cleaner) together - a small amount - and see if it thins well and can be sprayed.

yeah I thought about that Jeanne.. but it dries glossy.. wouldn't that be hard to paint on and it dry?

No dries completely .. not sticky at all , I'd love it if I didn't hate it right now LOL

If it dries to the touch completely, then you should be able to just use your gel colors and paint on it. I say give it a try on the one that got smudged up and see what happens. I bet you could mix color into the glaze itself and use that.

Just a little word of warning - make sure your glaze cleaner is food-grade Iso-propylalcohol (IPA) if you are going to use it to thin your glaze to spray on the cake, not all of them are!

I don't know Jeanne.. I am at a loss with this stuff... Makes me mad.. I need these cups for next Sun. they are taking forever to dry anyways.. then I go and screw one cup up UGHH

I say try to paint on the cup that got wrecked.. it can't hurt anything right??

Do you have a spare piece of fondant that you can practice on? Don't wanna go ruining another cc. Roll out a nice big piece and try it a few different ways. Thin it with vodka and try b.j.babe's idea of painting over the glaze.

(And if you use Pearl Dust in such abundance why wasn't that on your wish list which looked conspicuously like mine? Huh? Maybe instead of two fondant sheeters. lol)

Ooooh good for you. I was thinking about those preval sprayers.. that way you wouldn't wreck your airbrush with goopy glaze. Good to know if I ever need to do something like that.

Okay so I'm confused, are we saying you CAN spray confectioners glaze through an airbrush WITHOUT it clogging up? If it works in the Preval sprayers...

I have used confectioners glaze many time,but have not sprayed it through my Airmaster. I like the idea of using a preval sprayer. The sprayable glaze is not that cheap, but it is available.

Okay, for those of you that have the Preval sprayer, can you get it in The Home Depot or Lowes? Approx. how much does it go for?

Ok I will tell you this .. When I asked Lowes or Home Depot they thought I was NUTS.. they didn't know anything about it... THEN .. after driving the 140 plus miles BACK home I stopped at my local itty bitty hardware store (ya know.. one of those 30 people own it here in my county LOL ) and they ordered them for me .. AND he gives them to me for his price AND keeps 3 instock for me all the time ... I get them for 3.75 ... I do have a airbrush but NO I wouldn't use it in that... this stuff is potent (confectionors glaze).. In fact my counter has a nice candy coating now LOL ..
