I can't find this answer maybe because of the Crash of '08! Can anyone tell me when I put the BC on, do I put just a thin crumb-coat, or do I ice it like I normally would and then lay the fondant??? Thanks for any advice on this
Some put a thin crumb coat, some use a normal amount of icing. I like to go in between with a thicker crumb coat, but not as thick as a normal coat.
You may want to start out with a crumb coat, until you get used to handling the fondant, then experiment with a thicker coat. It can get a bit squishy if it is too thick.
Hi SugarBakers05,
Definitely use a thin layer. If you ice it as you would normally the fondant will move too easily and your cake will not come out smoothly.
I use a very thin crumb coat ... just enough to provide something for the fondant to adhere to. I have found that you will get "squishy" spots in the fondant if you use too much buttercream underneath.
Thanks sugarbaker...
Now I know why my cakes come out with lumps in them....too much BC
Good luck to you...and to me~
I trim my cakes to get them straight; crumbcoat, chill then cover.
if I use full BC i get the lumpies.
check out my siggy for more info...
