I know there is probably already a topic in the forums that people are posting their embarrassing cakes, but I couldn't find it. So, I'm making a new post!! I do not want to put this in my gallery (overall it looks fairly nice - to people who wouldn't know what it should look like icon_eek.gif ), but I'll paste it here instead. Here is the problem with this cake:

I CAN'T DO REVERSE SHELLS!!!! (see photo below icon_redface.gif)

Does anyone else have any pics that they would like to laugh over with the rest of us? Please post them! Tarina

I can't see them that well in the pic, but I think the cake looks really good. Great job on the BCT. It took me a couple of tries to get the reverse sheels down, but now its easy. Just keep practicing.
Here is my practice cake for my sister-in-law's wedding cake. It looks horrible. Thank god the wedding cake came out better. The actual wedding cake is in my photos.

Mine is the only one in my gallery. It was so cute in person, but the picture looks HORRID.

It looked just like this, but the peaks were smaller.

Well if that's your worse cake, I'll never show mine!! That cake looks great!! As for your borders, I showed tcturtleshell and a few others at her DOS how to do a reverse shell or what I call it, "L" border, that was easier.. instead of stopping/starting with the reverse shell method, do a continuous "L"... practice on the edge of a cake pan .. start with the top of the L, then come down just a bit just like you would if writing an L then make the bottom of the L .. then immediately start with the next L and continue doing this over and over down the sides of your cake.. if you need to stop, you can usually pick right back up where you left off and no one will know icon_smile.gif

I like your cake better than martha's. Hers is kind of scary looking.

you know, you guys have a point...this could have really been bad. I was just really embarrassed by the border, not the cake overall. And, I got to thinking about it, when I first joined this forum, I put a picture of my MIL's Mother's Day cake in there and it is far worse than this cake could ever be!! Can't figure out how to get it out of there icon_redface.gif !! Funny how your idea of what looks "bad" changes as you work more on perfecting your techniques!!

Ok you guys, I went back a ways and found this terrible thing. Thank goodness it was just for my little boy. You can tell I hadn't gotten the hang of frosting consistancy and making a smooth finish. The great thing about kids is that he loved it anyway. This year however, he wants a 3-d yoda complete with light sabre. Funny how his expectations have grown with Mommy's skills!

It is so funny how when I did my first cakes, I was so proud of myself, but looking back and comparing them to the ones I do now, even though it has only been a couple of months, I think they really aren't that great. Hopefully it will only get better. I know I could get better if I just took the time to take a class.

All of the cakes look great! I don't see what's wrong with them. I guess we are our own worst critics. icon_biggrin.gif

Yeah all these cakes look fine, and I would have to agree with gma1956 with
"The cakes I didn't want anybody to see.... Well, you think I took a picture of them!!!!!!!"
I know I haven't taken photos of my worst cakes (and I would be in great shape if my worst cakes looked like these cakes)!!

I'm happy that I've taken pics of all my cakes. Even the bad ones icon_smile.gif I look back at my first cake for class & laugh!! It was terrible!! It's my 1st pic in my photo albums.. everyone always mentions it AFTER they have looked through all the photo's. It happens everytime!! I like to see the reaction on peoples faces when they see it too! They get up enough nerve to mention it when they see all the pics!!! Too funny!!!

I agree....the Martha Stewart cake was pretty ugly. I don't know what her thinking was on that cake! For some reason I can't post a pic on here...but if you look in my photos I think my ugliest cake is the 5th picture. The one with buttercream, pink swirls, and purple writing. I made it last minute...I thought is was so ugly. The other ones you guys posted looked great...don't know what you are talking about them being disasters. Ha ha Brandy
